Not sure, based on what you wrote, what you means by "when," but frankly - and I write this as a Republican who is not a fan of Mr. Trump - but it already has backfired. The consequences of this in electoral terms are likely going to last.
To start, as a legal matter this ruling will likely not last long. In essence, the Colorado Supreme Court said, "You've not been formally charged with any crime, let alone convicted of said crime, but based on an unclear provision of the Constitution, you will be penalized for not having been charged or convicted of said crime."
Yikes! I've worked in politics for over two decades and memory runneth not to a time when I have seen a sloppier legal ruling. Worse, a ruling that seems nothing but politically motivated. Thus making the courts seem little more than instruments not of justice but political convenience.
Worse still, it seems tailor made to serve former President Trump's own political narrative. That narrative is a populist politics that says that the elites are trying to deny the common man his freedoms and, more specifically, that they are all out to get Mr. Trump.
In political terms, this is dynamite. It is hard to imagine an action - in law or in politics - that seemed to fit the narrative of one side's political agenda. In this case, Mr. Trump's and it will likely not only energize Mr. Trump's voter base, but will no doubt raise the eyebrows of that segment of the population that tends to be indifferent to politics but that is, in general cultural terms, ardent about the assertion of its' rights - especially the right to vote for whom they please.
It is hard to imagine an action that would play more to Mr. Trump's populist politics and absolutely infuriate his base and get them to the polls. With perhaps the only thing mitigating this action being the VERY strong odds that the Supreme Court will likely - and very quickly - overturn the Colorado Supreme Court's ruling. Thus giving the popular anger some time to dissipate and thereby mitigating some of the cultural and political consequences of this ruling.
This - and again, I say this as a Republican who is not a populist nor a fan of Mr. Trump - was perhaps one of the most misguided and slovenly legal rulings in American political and legal history. Mr. Trump was never charged with inciting an insurrection in a court of law, let alone found guilty of same. Moreover, in the one case where he was so charged - his second impeachment - he was found innocent.
Yet from that, the Colorado Supreme Court said that they would deny Mr. Trump his right to appear on the state's ballots. Worse still, not a general election ballot, but a primary election ballot which is actually the jurisdiction of the political party who is sponsoring the primary election.
In other words, the Colorado Supreme Court said, in effect, "You were not charged with a crime, let alone found guilty of said crime with which you were not charged, and so we will ban you from appearing on the ballot of an internal political party matter." It is hard to imagine a sloppier and blatantly partisan hack job from an alleged court of law.
Suffice to say, this already has backfired on the Democratic party and likely will continue to do so. Best not to wave a red flag in front of a bull.
It already has. A growing number accept the fact that we are ruled by an oligarchy. If they manage to railroad Trump’s nomination, only some boomer conservatives and the small number of remaining Christian zionists would even consider voting for Haley. The rest will boycott the election. This would result in the fake opposition RNC being completely swept out of office. The globalist neoliberals would go hog wild and the DNC would own all the blame for it. They would probably “fortify” any future elections, but they will lose the support and efforts of people they need to keep the country functioning. The slow grind into dysfunction, the lackluster recruitment numbers, the fiscal problems, the declining tax base… all these trends would rapidly accelerate until our elites are cleared out of power.
I mean, this literally sets the precedent of "you're guilty because we say so". Due process be damned. When will these idiots come to understand precedent? Are they just too arrogant to grasp that it can be used against them too?
Emmett Till, Joe McCarthy, the whole MeToo movement, basically the entire political career of Joe Biden... the presumption of innocence is dying, and that death is spreading from social things to legal ones.
Whatever your political leanings are, this needs to be stopped and stopped COLD- or the rule of law is dead. It's not just "the revenge of King George", but "the revenge of king John".

When Kavanaugh's appointment to the Supreme Court looked like it was going to be derailed by an accusation with absolutely no evidence or internal consistency, I sounded the alarm; no one else cared. It was an odd feeling to be saying, even to myself "Oh, thank goodness that underqualified boob got a lifetime seat in the most important court in the country", but the alternative was even worse. Now... now, it looks like partisan hatred is already in the process of destroying society, after which destroying the country will be a piece of cake.
I miss the days when disagreeing with someone didn't automatically mean hating them.

Far-left liberals and socialists in this country continue to not understand that stunts like this just make Trump way more popular and far more powerful. To be far, and for full disclosure, the seven Colorado Supreme Court Justices, all who are Democrats, voted 4-3 to remove Trump from the ballot, not 7-0. I only mention this because it's not fair to criticize all seven justices for the nonsensical decision from just four of them. This will be quickly overturned by the United States Supreme Court.

Which is absolute bullshit, because he's been formally charged with dozens of crimes, and the only reason he hasn't been convicted yet is because he's managed to delay the start of the trials, in one case with the help of a judge he appointed.

There are two parts: 1: Trump engaged in insurrection, 2: Trump is therefore ineligable to run for president. Both are reasonable assertions, especially the former.

Biden allegedly engaged in some of that business while holding the office of Vice President. Since US companies were available for the same alleged tenders but the Chinese got the jobs that's undermining American interests - jobs, economy, taxes, etc to apparently line his own or his family's pockets. It's potentially treason - technically - not insurrection.
And Drumpf hasn't been formally charged in a federal court case, never mind convicted of engaging in an insurrection. Biden needs to distance himself from anything remotely resembling election interference. His best play at this point to derail the Fart would be to appeal to the Colorado State Supreme Court to reverse their decision so the voters are able to have a free choice. It would prevent any use of the decision by the republicans to show how corrupt and/or scared of their candidate the Democrats are.

Seeing as Republicans are threatening to keep Biden of the ballots in certain states, it could put us in a situation where neither Biden nor Trump is on the ballot in all 50 states, allowing 3rd party candidates get more votes then they normally would.

The reason for keeping Trump off the ballot is that a court (at trial) has established that he engaged in an insurrection against the United States, and the 14th amendment says that someone who does that is ineligable absent a supermajority in congress. I think this precedent is way bigger than Trump. With all the procedural issues from 2020 that haven’t been addressed and just swept under the rug. I would not be surprised if the election cannot be called and neither candidate gets to 270. No, they don't. This is one of the most fraudulent cases I have ever seen and it is done in extremely bad faith. Trump literally wanted 20,000 national guard troops on the Capitol and Nancy Pelosi took over 90 minutes to answer her phone. Also there was literally bus loads of federal agents on site.

The capitol police were firing rubber bullets and smoke grenades to the people across the street from the capitol and we never found out what Ray Epps was doing there. When Trump is back in the White House I am sure all this will finally come out.

By refusing to accept the results of the election he lost, by taking part in a conspiracy to illegally pressure state election officials to lie for him, and getting people to fraudulently claim to be electors for states he lost. By trying to appoint an AG who was willing to lie about there being something to investigate about the election. By pressuring Pence to cheat ("you're too honest") for him and help him steal the election. By calling a mob to DC on Jan 6 to attack the Capitol when he knew exactly the effect of his words on his supporters.
I probably missed a few things in there, but it's not a bad summary.
