Not at all. At least not in the U. S. At my last job I had a certain degree of power, yet people would still argue with and didn't respect me. Because in the US they know there is protection for the customer but not for the worker.
But even with police officers, people will argue. Maybe this is an American thing, because this German comedian said he went to Italy with his American friend and the police stopped them for wearing Borat swimsuits in public. The German guy apologized, while the American guy said, "Show me the law that says I can't wear this." So yeah, I think it's more of an American thing.

Yes, sane people know instinctively it's pointless.
Frontal attacks on people higher in social ranking or with better back support are likely ineffective.
Guerilla tactics is the solution but nature of this tactic is that it isn't obvious and easily recognizable.

Only in the interest of self preservation. People have no problem tearing down sacred cows today. But only if the feel it will not cost them too much personally.
