"Son, when I appoint a [racial slur] to the court, I want everyone to know he's a [racial slur]."
President LBJ: "I’ll have those n*****s voting Democratic for the next 200 years"
Because they were disproportionately assigned to front-line combat units, African Americans accounted for roughly 12.5% of total U. S. military deaths. were disproportionately drafted and served in combat roles at higher rates. While comprising about 11% of the U. S. population, over 300,000 Black Americans served, making up more than 16% of all draftees and nearly a quarter of combat troops.

Actually, LBJ wasn't. Indeed, having come from a poor background where he himself was the victim of bigotry and prejudice, he empathized with Blacks which is why his administration was the one that pushed for all the civil rights legislation and constitutional amendments.
That said, having been raised in the Jim Crow Era South, we would have been comfortable using racist terms that we would find abhorrent today. Furthermore, LBJ was no idiot when it came to politics and was one of the most masterful politicians America has ever seen. He was from the South so to remain in office, he needed to retain a certain persona to his electoral souther white base...
But, once he became President, he became President of all of the USA and so he could more be himself and thus pushed for the civil rights legislation that came into being during his administration.
Nothing says civil rights by sending black kids to their deaths killing yellow kids in Vietnam
What a disgusting, vile man he was. I don’t think fondly of him at all.
Nicknamed his penis jumbo and would flash the female white house staff.
Yup. I know all of that. Gross.
Don't forget that Republicans largely passed the Civil Rights bill of 1964, not Democrats
He was right though
Agreed Democrats were too busy at kkk rallies, nothing changed
You might want to check the voting records...
I did and posted about it here about 2 or 3 years ago.
The voting is less along the lines of Democrats and Republicans as it was along the lines of Southerners versus Northerners. Back then, there wen't many southern Republicans at all. So, it was northern Democrats and northern Republicans who supported it and southern Democrats and the few southern Republicans who would be against.
And, yes, everything changed. I am sorry you are too young and ignorant of history to be aware of that. Which bothers me because look at the south now being all red states... Why is that? Google "Southern Strategy" and learn something.
Agreed even now they are tight with the kkk, the Democrat paramilitary wing. The last president, biden was tight with them and even opposed desegregation
That is correct.
He seems to think he's proving a point here.
Ironically the south is seeing massive strides in education now. Largely, because they are avoiding policies that are commonly practiced in Democrat states that ruin minority communities

Upon my research into the "southern strategy" a few things don't add up.
Why did Eisenhower win a good portion of the states with Republicans had no strength?
Why did Carter and Clinton win a majority of the states if Democrats lost it?
Why did it take until 1994 for Republicans to win a congressional majority?
Why do Black Republicans find themselves elected now in Southern states?
He got America into the welfare business in the first place. Democrats would not have much of a voter base without the welfare class.
Exactly look at how black households basically collapsed after he got in.
because he was democrat and they are hypocrit. major hypocrit.
Because he told the truth about his fellow peckerwoods !!!
