No. I don’t think a Harris/AOC or AOC/Harris ticket would defeat Vance/Rubio or Rubio/Vance, largely because AOC’s longstanding association with the DSA would tie that Democratic ticket to a socialist movement whose new national program goes far beyond ordinary progressive policy. The DSA explicitly promotes “Feminism For All,” calls for a new constitution and democratic socialist republic, and proposes abolishing the Senate and Electoral College while replacing the President and Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary subordinate to Congress. I think once those positions became a major focus of a national campaign, they would be a serious liability with voters who want to preserve our existing constitutional system.

Harris didn’t do well in the primary. That’s why when Biden stepped down (or got forced out) the Dems didn’t do a primary to replace him. They just installed her. People see through her.
AOC is a communist. She can do great in deep blue NYC (upstate not so much) but the nation? No way. Her 30 and below love the idea of free stuff but that’ll only work in a few blue cities. The rest of the country will not vote for her.

@Sevenpointfive I never said Mamdani could run in 2028. He cannot under the Constitution as it currently exists because he is a naturalized citizen, not a natural-born citizen.

My concern is AOC and the broader DSA movement getting closer to federal power. The DSA’s own current program explicitly says it wants to draft a new constitution and create a democratic socialist republic.

And that raises a much bigger long-term question. If the constitutional order were ever actually replaced or substantially rewritten, the eligibility rules we have today would not necessarily remain the same. A future constitution could theoretically permit naturalized citizens such as Mamdani to become president.

I am NOT saying AOC could become president and unilaterally rewrite the Constitution the next morning. She couldn’t. I’m saying I have no interest in helping a political movement whose stated destination is a new constitutional order get anywhere near enough power to pursue that project.

So “AOC/Mamdani 2028” misses my point. I’m worried about where this movement says it ultimately wants to take the country—not pretending Mamdani is presently eligible to run for president.

Harris was already elected vice president on Biden’s 2020 ticket and spent four years in the White House. And the newest New Hampshire polling actually has AOC narrowly leading Pete Buttigieg among prospective 2028 Democratic primary candidates, so an AOC/Buttigieg-type ticket may be more plausible than Harris/AOC at this point.

Either way, I think the DSA could become a major issue in 2028 if AOC is anywhere near the ticket. Their current program is not just ordinary progressive policy—it explicitly calls for a new political system, abolishing the Electoral College, and replacing the President and Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary subordinate to Congress.

So yes, candidate quality matters, but I think AOC’s association with the DSA and the DSA’s radical agenda would give Republicans a very serious issue to campaign on nationally.

Harris wasn’t “elected” at all, ever. She was chosen by Biden and the DNC to be VP. She lost every fair election she entered. Which is why she was appointed to be the democratic nominee for president without a single primary.

My problem with the “let them run, the memes will be great” attitude is the complacency behind it. You’re assuming DSA-associated candidates will automatically lose. Elections are not guaranteed, and political movements build power precisely because opponents underestimate them.

I don’t think this is something conservatives should treat as entertainment. The DSA openly wants a different political and constitutional order. Maybe it could never achieve all of that. I hope it never comes close. But “they’ll never win” is not a strategy for preserving the constitutional republic.

I would rather take the movement seriously now, expose its entire agenda, and defeat its candidates politically than laugh about the memes and discover later that we helped normalize a movement whose stated destination is a democratic socialist republic.

I’m not willing to gamble the Founders’ constitutional system on the assumption that the other side can never win.

And it goes far beyond ordinary election-year policy proposals. The program calls for a new political system and a democratic socialist republic, along with the structural changes I’ve already been discussing.

It also explicitly contains an entire section titled “Feminism For All,” advocating socialist feminism, abortion and reproductive autonomy, gender transition protections, changes involving marriage and divorce, and other feminist objectives. That is part of the same published program—not something critics invented.

So I am not going to dismiss this as political theater or assume none of it matters because achieving the whole program would be difficult. When an organized political movement publishes, adopts, and campaigns around a program describing the society it ultimately wants to create, I take it seriously.

That is exactly why I keep saying voters need to read the WHOLE thing before helping DSA-associated candidates accumulate political power. Healthcare and housing are not the entirety of what this movement is asking Americans to empower.
