How do you feel about charity?

In 1985, people in Africa were starving. In response, the world's greatest musicians got together to raise money for food. They performed at venues around the world and their sets were broadcast live on TV.

Nearly two billion people in 150 countries watched. Closer to 1,900,000,000 people. To comprehend that number, three tear drops from each person would fill an olympic sized swimming pool. People watching could call a telephone number to contribute money for food. They raised the equivalent of $300 million USD today.

There was all these adverts saying the difference about buying someone food for a day or buying them the tools to provide a sustainable food source for themselves.

I remember the big tv events well.

But people got suspicious when year after year millions of pounds/dollars were raised but the images of people in poverty and starving kept getting pumped around pulling on the heartstrings.

It's 2026 and there is still ads of people starving and in poverty and disease...

It's not that people don't care. It's just there is a difference between giving money to solve a problem and throwing money into a black hole...

It depends on which charity it is. Some are good and many are bad.

Charities spend vast sums paying CEOs and okay I know it's less than the private sector equivalent

My support of charity is though their shops where I might buy something I'll like or make a profit on buying something they've missed

I wouldn't donate directly or do their supposed lotteries

Most of the mare scams with the people that run it making big salaries and driving around in luxury cars. Just to be on the safe side I never give to any of them.

charity is local. in each country the local government needs to help its poor.

$300 million is more than their combined net worth. It's very easy to be charitable with someone else's money. Great tax write off
