Is democratic socialism becoming dangerously influential in the Democratic Party?

A new CNN poll conducted by SSRS found that about one-third of Democrats and Democratic-leaning adults now identify as democratic socialists.

The poll also found that, among Democratic-aligned adults who do not personally identify as democratic socialists, 64% would be at least OK with the Democratic Party nominating one. Democratic-socialist candidates have also recently won several Democratic congressional nominations.

Do these results suggest that democratic socialism is becoming dangerously influential within the Democratic Party, or is its growing popularity not a serious concern?

@exitseven I hope you are right, but I would not assume that losing a few general elections would cause the movement to disappear. DSA-aligned candidates could continue organizing through Democratic primaries, local and state offices, and party institutions until they become even more deeply embedded within the Democratic coalition.

They can also present their agenda as the necessary alternative to “fascism.” I am already debating someone on Show of Hands who says he might vote for a DSA presidential candidate—and supports democratic-socialist candidates for offices such as governor—because he regards Republicans as fascists.

That is precisely how voters who do not personally support abolishing capitalism or reconstructing the constitutional system can nevertheless help democratic socialists accumulate political power. They convince themselves that defeating Republicans matters more than examining the broader movement they are empowering. So yes, the movement could be decisively rejected—but it could also survive electoral setbacks and continue pulling the Democratic Party farther left.

there may be places in the country where there are a majority of people are on welfare or are illegal aliens or both that can pull enough votes to get a win but it is a 90-10 issue with communism on the short side.

I and a vast majority of others far prefer a Trump economy compared to the type of economy the democratic socialists envision
