Why is assault on a police officer a felony when simple assault isn’t?

So if you put hands on someone, not injuring them but still contact.. that’s simple assault. Now if you do the same to a cop, it’s a felony. Why the difference? All lives matter, a cops life shouldn’t matter more than the average taxpayer.

The idea is that threatening police threatens the safety of the entire community. It’s similar with a lot of public officials, and their party is irrelevant. Remember the performative “shock” and “fear” from democrats during the January 6th protests? At least three of them were a quarter of a mile away and pretending they were under live fire.
Every leftist who commented wanted Drumpf and everyone who voted for him to be executed because one Capitol Police officer died of a stroke the day after the protests. If you’re struggling to remember, look it up. So which is it? Cop’s lives are more important or they’re not. They can’t be more important when it works for your political narrative and wholly unimportant when it’s your own ilk doing the assailing.

Benefit of doubt here. You as an individual self defense and slap around a cop in a line of duty pur your right of self preservation. If it stays local and state court they have biased relationship against you.

The cop 100% fucked up and now the district attorney who needs good relationship with the cops "won't touch this." Up the chain it goes.

Felony charges dosen't mean worse crime. It's more different leagues and different rules.

Doctors are protected from murder charges in surgery if they demonstrate adherence with industry practice. Spouses of service people receive pensions.

Governments make laws, more often than not, to achieve outcomes that you benefit from.

Put your big boy pants on and deal with a world of constant compromise.

People don't realize how stressful and dangerous is being a cop especially in a big city so that's why the punishment is a felony if you attack a cop.

Fun fact: police work isn’t even in the top ten most dangerous jobs in the US. I am significantly more likely to die on the job than a cop. I don’t get special treatment because my job is difficult and dangerous.
