Why do so many people accept every negative claim about Israel?

Israel certainly has its problems and, like any country, should be open to criticism when warranted. However, acknowledging Israel’s faults does not automatically mean that Israel is guilty of every accusation made against it. Israel has faced significant conflict, hostility and persecution throughout its history, and the experiences of Israelis and Jewish people should not be dismissed or overlooked. It is possible to recognise the suffering of Palestinians and criticise Israeli government policies while also acknowledging Israel’s own history of persecution, insecurity and displacement. A balanced view should consider the experiences and rights of all people involved rather than treating one side as inherently guilty.

Throughout history, Jewish communities have faced persecution, violence and displacement in various parts of the Middle East and beyond. The modern State of Israel has also faced wars, terrorism and threats to its existence from some states and armed groups in the region. Israel has nevertheless survived and remained resilient. For those who hold religious beliefs about divine protection, Israel’s survival can be understood as part of God’s protection and providence.
