As an American, does it annoy you if I say the US is just a bigger England?

Yes. Are you wanting to be annoying?
No haha
I didn't think so. Many Brits consider the UK to be superior to the US in every way and with that condescending attitude being common, most Americans don't want to be compared to the UK.
Brits keep blaming their failures on immigrants who keep their country sustained
@Factual_person
Except for the frequent suffering of women from rap pers.
@Factual_person So do Trumpsters. Guess it's a fugly, stupid white people thing.
"Annoy you" sounds like Alex Karp doing the reverse cowgirl on a chair during a meeting dreaming about meeting his dom for the first time.
They're both run by criminals and israel puppets. Who cares how you group them. γ €
Yes because i find most forms of ignorance annoying. The US and UK are very different in many ways. Also, βjust biggerβ is wildly dismissive of how much vast size and population changes the ways in which we self govern. There are plenty of UK policies that people think we can just copy and paste onto the US and enjoy identical success. Itβs wholly untrue. The sheer cost of implementing and enforcing federal laws is exponentially progressive, not directly proportional.
The US and UK are similar enough that, for the most part, any random person from one can be transferred to the other with little or no specific education or training about the transition, and they will ultimately be fine. A bit of culture shock is about as bad as it might get.
There was a time the term "New England" was used.
T'was more like the New AND Improved England.
Then, the USA just surged so insurmountably ahead of England that it was insulting to the USA to be compared to England.
Do they still say New England in the north east?
@browsingthroughthe
Not anymore.
It's been a long while since I heard that term.
I can now just think of that "Weekend In New England" song of Barry Manilow as the only example left.
Yes. Despite your good wording -warning a trigger i felt annoyed. Those brits just adore the "royal" family.
And princess di! And harry ex-prince? And have not yet scattered the "life appointed" house of 'lords' yuck!
And different society. And as a kingdom is old and weak. But king is the weak figurehead king of many countries.
Starlets and strippers.
I'm non-Americasnesian though.
Let them be annoyed - it won't improve their present state.
To say that they are a ''bigger England'' - actually is an insult towards the British :P
England is falling apart at the seams, but least we have our suburbs and our countryside. For now.
I don't even know how to describe the USA. It's a complicated beast. Beastly no doubt, with some good aspects.
Tbh the only thing we have in common is that we both speak English. The modern US has very diverse historical and cultural influences. The original 13 colonies were similar to England, not the US with 50 states of today.
"Two countries divided by a common language", as the joke goes.
Respectfully, I don't think you could claim to speak English!
@Levin what do I speak then? American? π
Of course :) We need to rename it to American.
Depends on one's family trees ππ if you still hold it dear, it's there β£οΈ "home is where the heart is" and to think Scary Movie 2026 used that line. But it's true. Home is where the heart is - no money can buy ππ
@choco-latte sorry tried to tag yah above Asker - sigh. Technology why.
No, because at that really does is tell me that the person who says that is either a troll or an idiot. Either way, I don't respect them... Think of it like being called a poopyhead by a 5-year old.
not at all, were as dumb as England, possibly dumber. Certainly fatter. It's an insult to English to say y'all are as fat and out of shape as we are.
This made me smile and giggle π€π so much my chest vibrated
@browsingthroughthe all good, it's true, it's true.
I sometimes wonder what Americans / North Americans think about their long long distant ancestors or "cousins" the English. After all - "once was colonies, once."
👀😋
Thankfully as an Aussie - I still get to have King and Country and Flag and Faith ππ love ya Charlie III (King Charles the III and I loved equally his processor his mother Queen Elizabeth II).
See in Australia, I embrace how "we" consider the numerals to be as the English do. ππ I love that.
In no way, shape or form is the U. S. anything like England. Why? Because we won't stand for the crap their liberal gov't is pulling over there. The Dems will still try, however.
A colorful past shrouded in controversy, an imperialist nation, questionable government, same flag minus some noticeable differences, empire on decline.
I will say they have Better Healthcare, but still ran by oligarchs.
You'd think that there's still sentimental about them. You can read that however you wish βΊοΈπ
*they're
Not really. It's kind of true. I say the same thing. But I say, "The UK is a smaller US". Their cities are older, and they have some different laws. Aside from that, they're more or less the same
As an educated French person, you should know better! βοΈ
Oh, the Frenchie has a new account.
I should have added a mix of English and German β Anglo-Saxons, in short.
To be honest, itβs a rather provocative question.
π
England and the USA are two different types of governments. No way is the USA anything like Merry Old England. England: cold food, warm beer, Usa BBQ, cold beer
Not at all, it makes me laugh. The English for the most part are a bunch of subservients who likes their government micromanaging their lives. Thatβs why they stayed on that side of the Atlantic
just Texas alone is bigger than England... and that's funny, lol
We are more like the former British Empire. We have interests all over the world.
I won't dare to ask what you say about Australia.
I regularly forget that Australia exists, but not as often as New Zealand!
@Maybe_Maybe_not How do you remember how frequently you forget?
What? Oh sorry I can't answer you, there's a flying saucer landing on the main road !
I might pile on then.
It does not annoy me. At least the leadership in the UK is doing better then Trump
As an Englishman, I'd probably say England is a smaller America.
There's not much you can say about the US that would bother me. LOL
50 bigger England's maybe, more England than Englandistan.
England is like a frail old woman, America is like her grown daughter who is a heavy-weight boxing champion.
More like a tubby 300lb son with a pony tail, who rolls around the supermarket on a motorised wide-seated heavy duty cart.
No, it's your opinion! The food here has always been much better.
Say what you want. We both know the real truth when alone at night
What is there to be annoyed about? It's just a profoundly stupid statement that almost no one would take seriously 🤷ββοΈ
No dude, you are just telling the truth, even your flags are the same
Really? Any stars on brits'? Any CROSS on ours?
Wow. You are so smart dude. I did not know that. Both flags have three colors. The US flag is a rip-off of the UK flag. The UK is the mom of the US. If you deny all of this, why do you speak their language? You do not even have your own native language.
I don't get annoyed by stupid statements.
Aviator is not impressed by Asker. Lol.
@browsingthroughthe Let me make myself clear. The question by @julie09 is perfectly valid. What's stupid is anyone who says that the the US is just a bigger England. That's not even close.
No.
I do not think it is true though
No, it just makes you a silly person.
No, but that's cute too say.
I agree ππ» so cute
Why would it annoy me if you say retarded shit?
MUCH fatter, too !!!
Good one hahahaha.
Nah, I don't mind if someone else sounds stupid.
More accurate to say England is a smaller US 🤷ββοΈ
Ooooh, Frodo went there lol chuckles giggles π€π€π€π. Ah well. Flip emoji π smile. Look bro, you know, bruh, in the end - isn't it nice we all speak English.
English ππππππ
I would find it inaccurate
No, but I bet it annoys the English.
You mean better 😂
