Why is women going their own way celebrated and viewed as righteous by society, but men going their own way gets harshly criticized and questioned?

It was just thought men would continue doing what men had done for millennium whilst women were flipping the age old script that worked.

A flawed expectation. Whilst women have been flipping the script they still expect men to perform the old script roles that we have done for millennium. Their expectations are predominantly driving the media.

But change risks, consequences and reward mix and you will change behavior quite obviously. If I don't muck up and take on the expenses of a woman, I will be quite wealthy in my 40's.

A lot of men optimizing their own life will not be well received.
