From what I've seen they look at white achievement European culture, inventions. They equate that with being a superior race. Technology could mean you survive better or contribute more. Then again if your technology includes nuclear weapons then suddenly it no longer seems like the best survival strategy. Nor does it look like you're contributing the most to the world. They're not thinking it through.
