The Roman calender had 10 months. Indeed, the year began in March (Martius) and ended in December, covering the active periods of farming and warfare. There was also a 'winter gap', where the remaining 61 days of deep winter were left unassigned to any month.

When it was rearranged to 12 months, in between came July and August, named after Julius Caesar and the first Roman emperor Augustus Caesar.

So September (meaning 7) was shifted to the ninth position and so on until December, which shifted from position 10 to 12.

The original calendar by the Romans had 10 months, the original decimal system. The first 6 were named after Roman gods. The rest were numbered 7, 8, 9 and 10.

Julius Caesar, when he became emperor, created his own month, July, and Augustus did the same, August, both in the nice warm summer, giving us our current 12 months.

It was but the Romans decided to add 2 more months. Given Janus was the god of new beginnings they put January at the start.

If the idea is to have the entire world on the same calendar, it would seem to make sense for everyone to be on the Gregorian calendar, or alternatively, the lunar calendar. Switching everyone to yet another calendar would cause a plethora of problems. And what would be the advantage?

Apparently back when March was more valued (lol birthday month) lol the US presidency was often that month instead of January when the clock strikes midday 🕛🎊

As for taking a journey back in time if we could the first of March would be the first day of the new year because January & February did not exist & they were later added on. In addition Quintilis and Sextilis were later renamed to July and August & Martius was changed to March. Aprilis is April & Iunius is June.

It's all arbitrary, LOL. Is Sunday the first day of the week or the last day of the week. January was chosen to be month 1 more or less based on the winter solstice and December was the end of one trip around the sun. Why not the vernal equinox as the beginning of the year? I seriously don't pay much attention to what day of the week it is or the month of the year. Likewise holidays are all arbitrary based on someone's agenda but not mine.

Maybe. Do you know why the summer solstice is called "Midsommar"? Because back in old Scandinavia, the year was only divided into two seasons, summer and winter, so June 20 would've been the middle of summer. It kind of would make more sense to start off the year on or close to the start of spring
