Obviously those are extremes. But between those two polar opposites, which one would you rather deal with?
- Fearful towards you, decent and polite on the outside but secretly dislikes you. They are talking trash behind your back and saying foul language in private. They can be liars and even fake remorseful apologies to avoid punishment.
- Spoiled and rude to your face; they don't even sugarcoat things nor pretend to be polite. They can be a bit entitled but they are telling the truth, even if it heads towards blatant disrespect. They aren't criminals though, just rude and spoiled.

I would think it would depend on what we're talking about.
Customer service, i'd rather i get fake politeness. Because i really don't care if they don't like me. If i'm at a restaraunt i'm there to enjoy dinner with loved ones it ain't about them.
Now when it comes to interaction of the opposite gender, i always want honesty. Even if that honesty is unpleasant. Because it ain't about just me. It's hopefully about a beginning with us. And if she has zero interest it does nobody any good for her to pretend if she's not feeling it.
Your options leave a bit to be desired. LOL I'd rather you be politely fake, because I'll know that you are but no one else, including myself, will have to deal with your rudeness.
The liar. That is called diplomacy. It is critical.
Honesty can be overrated sometimes.
From friends I need honesty. From acquaintances, if I have to chose, I'd rather have respect.
I believe that honestly is the best policy.
