Age of consent varies from state to state in the U. S. In some it 16 or 17.

When I was 16, my first girlfriend was 15. She had already been in one short-lived relationship and had a pregnancy scare. So she was on the pill when we met.

When I turned 18, my different girlfriend wasn't yet 17.

Age of consent laws are arbitrary. I didn't pay attention to them when I was young. Hell, girls are ready once they pass puberty and most start having sex at that point, especially now that contraception is available.

The difference between today and generations ago is, most people wind up going to college and aren't ready to get married at a young age because they don't yet have the means to support a family.

Go back a few generations and girls were expected to get married and start a family soon after leaving school which would have been 13 to 16 depending on the generation. No one expected 13 year olds to marry but there was a lot of social pressure to marry before 20 when your womb was still ripe.

Obviously no guy is going marry a girl unless he can have sex with her but no one wants pregnant girls in class rooms so the age of 16 was set

because age 16 can be trusted to drive cars on a risky road and highway. so can be trusted as adult with adult. but not in democrat states. in new york age 16 can only do it with age 16. but 18 with 17 is a crime here.

Because ot used to be you were basically an adult at 16.

When i was 16 i had already joined the British army and finished school. Back then at 16 you could leave school, leave home, get a job, have sex, get married, have children, smoke cigarettes and women could appear topless at 16 in a magazine or page 3 in the paper. An ex girlfriend i dated appeared topless in the sun newspaper at 16.

Now kids dont grow up until they are 30

It's like that in most countries if the world, but just Europe. Which makes sense if you think about it.
