Why are some Indians perceived as arrogant or having a superiority complex?

Why do some people perceive certain Indians as arrogant or as having a superiority complex? I’m interested in understanding where that perception comes from, particularly when India continues to face significant challenges such as poverty, inequality, corruption, pollution, infrastructure problems, and social divisions involving religion, caste and socioeconomic status.

India has made significant progress in areas such as technology, science and economic development, but it also faces substantial challenges in governance, public services, environmental protection and living standards. Given this contrast, why might some people still encounter attitudes that come across as dismissive or superior towards other countries or cultures?

I’m not trying to suggest that all Indians behave this way. I’m interested in understanding the cultural, historical and social factors that might contribute to this perception, and whether there are differences between how India is viewed internationally and how Indians themselves perceive their country.

I'm Indian myself and this is not just my opinion, but also a fact that many of us tend to have pride over our history and culture and use that rich history as an excuse to our lack of civic sense today, blaming everything on the government. Most of us think anyone who's giving us constructive criticism is just hating on us.

Yes India has made progress in technology science and economic development but tell me how much of that progress is actually helping with lifestyle of an average citizen? Economic development you say but tax payers pay money for things they don't even prefer using, no one wants to send their kids to govt schools and no one wants to get admitted into govt hospitals, despite paying taxes for it. Technological progress, that I agree with, but there's still a lot of scope yet to be unravelled.

India has the same problem as China which is that they have a very large number on an average plot of land. China used communism to tailor their industry in ways that match their low land mass years ago so it has survived the economic danger of overpopulation better than India which avoided government economic control due to their religious protection values.

only by those who hate indians for hindu faith. nothing indians do supported those accusations. the ones around me -despite genius were never arrogant.

They have a cast system and they think others care about that. For me a Brahmin is as much as worth as Dalit. They are culturally, genetically and mentally the same even thought Brahmins think they are better, but they are not. lol

Because those Indians think they are "brown Jews" when in fact they are subservient clowns who are beholden to White skin.
