Is Fairfax County wrong to tell teachers not to link 9/11 with Islam?

On the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 Americans, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is facing scrutiny over how it directs teachers to teach students about 9/11.

FCPS, Virginia’s largest public school district, is instructing teachers not to associate 9/11 with Islam despite the terrorist attacks being committed by Islamic extremists.

The six-page guidance sent to teachers instructs them to “design instruction around your students’ needs and experiences” and do not “associate the 9/11 attacks with Islam or Muslims” and do not “center the extremists or the acts of the extremists.”

My question is, Why are we telling teachers to lie to students?

If i had kids and their teachers chose to lie to them, you better believe i would tell them the truth.

There's a huge difference between linking it to Islamic extremists and terrorists or linking it to the Islam faith. Do we link the Salem witch trials to christianity or to fundamental extremists?

It sounds to me the move is more about not using the event to demonise an entire religion for political purposes.

Last they are talking about completely disconnecting it from them all together. Read the article. The literature the teachers have been given say to tell the students that it was some bad individuals that chose to do bad things. And they are to shit down any talk that it was radical Islamic terrorists if the students bring it up.

Look I know you live in a country where you're lied to every day and that freedom of speech doesn't exist, but here in the states, the vast majority of us believe in telling the truth.

Child, telling children that the terror attacks were attached to RADICAL Islam is not indoctrination. It's the truth. Notice I didn't say Islam by its self I said RADICAL.. There is a difference.

Perhaps you should focus on your own country where people can get stabbed, arrested, and bleed out while the killer goes free when they claim racial abuse... I know he got arrested later. But your people would rather punish those who say offensive things than murderers and rapists.

I would say, based on the level of the students. For my own students (4,5 years old). Something bad something happened and the planes flew into 2 buildings, us Americans stayed strong and helped the families, city rebuild.
Would definitely not get into race/religion.
HS kids../ not sure. Personally… I would close my door and keep kids out of politics. Give basic facts. They can do more research on their own.

On that we can agree pre k and k kids, hell grade school in general don't need the specifics. But middle school and beyond they need the truth.

Definitely
