Should 3 year olds be taught about 9/11?

Question

A teacher at a church-sponsored daycare gave the children pictures of a plane flying into the smoking twin towers on 9/11 as a coloring exercise.

The picture shows the father of one of the children holding the paper that his son colored.

What do you think? Is this appropriate for 3 year-olds?

Note that this was a surprise to the parents.

3 years old is a bit young; but it is a very important event in our history... not just American history, World History... and thus it should be taught about in school.

But the whole story please... not the part which fits the narrative of certain people or groups.

I am not going into any kind of 'Conspiracy Theory or Theories'... but fact is that a lot has happened prior to 9/11 and that part is not being told enough.

The Taliban and Al Qaeda sent a clear warning to the US to stop meddling in Afghan affairs; the US had been involved in Afghanistan since the 1970s. The US issued the threats to the Taliban first; plans to bomb Afghanistan were on the table long before 9/11 had even been devised by the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda had attacked several US targets around the world already (Think about the USS Cole; think about the WT Centre bombing of 1993; think about the US embassy bombing in Kenya)... Yet the US did not back down threatening the Taliban, Al Qaeda and Afghanistan as a whole.

Absolutely not. A three year old can't wrap their mind around something like that. It will only cause trauma and nightmares.

And no doubt, the fake narrative is being presented with the purpose of instilling bigotry, fear and Islamophobia. Part of the Zionist agenda.

It’s too young! A 3y/o brain has not yet developed the cognitive skills to appropriately process something that heinous! Children between three and five years old, are still in a very egocentric mindset. They believe whatever happens it's because they caused it, or it's their fault, or that it will happen to them! Kids that age have a very difficult time separating the world at large from their own small world in which they live. It’s completely inappropriate to teach 3 year olds about the deadliest day in US history. Also, why the hell is a church teaching this?

No, that is far too young for a three year old to grasp what happened on that horrific day.

I don't know why these people believe that a three year old is an adult with an adult mind.

Our brains as humans aren't even fully developed until age 25!

Just let kids be kids! They only get one childhood and it should be an adulthood!!

Are you kidding me? Three year olds can't possibly make sense of that and they already have enough things they are afraid of. Why would any adult do something that would cause a small child to be afraid? Ever. If my child were given that, I would be gunning for that teacher the instance I found out about it.

THREE? Year olds? No. That is absurd. 3 year olds need to learn to count, addition, abc’s, sounds of letters, how to clean up after playing, how to kick a ball, how to properly speak, how to trace on a paper letters numbers, good and bad, not how some people bombed others and died etc. They should fire that teacher no warnings. Any adult should have commonsense especially if they are in charge of children.

It all depends on presentation. For *som kids it is just "coloring something sad".

It is less a problem then sexuality and mixed up sex identities that are like rating pg13 not younger...

If presented wrong it can be a problem, but...

probably the management "gave okay" on the teaching plan.

I remember being quite distressed when I was 5 by ANZAC day footage of WWI in the TV broadcast. I knew it was real and people were being hurt/killed. So I think it has to be done carefully with three year olds.

9/11 is now almost a quarter century ago. How is it currently discussed in schools? It is not as if the US can forget about it.

Absolutely not. Its impossible to describe that tragedy w/o the understanding of 1,500 years of history. Their minds are in able of nuanced or subtle thought so you will just be teaching them to hate. Its not about hating the people responsible for the attack but they are too young to separate the bad actors from the imnocents.
