No. Being “politically correct” is literally just not being a loud, brash bigot of some variety. The requests and expectations to treat everyone equally and with respect in our society is in no way out of line; opposing that is WILDLY out of line, and indicative of someone just being a bad person. It’s audacious the way bigots try to spin this, as if there’s some sort of merit to their bigotry, or they outright try to change the standing parameters for what being a bigot entails, so they’ll no longer fall under it.

Anybody having disdainful attitudes towards another person or group and wanting to be loud about that is ALWAYS the asshole, and there’s no room in decent society for people like that.

Political correctness has a wider meaning and it's depending on reference point.
If the narrative such a politician propagates isn't generally liked by electorate, this politician will be unpopular, if the narrative is liked this politician will be called a populist by other politicians.

The problem is by trying to appease a tiny minority they isolated and anger a far greater number. That one gesture can be twisted and amplified across social media by the far right and lead to more hatred towards the people the politically correct gesture was meant to protect.

Yes. Remember when politicians used to fake accents when they campaign to seem more likable? They come off as just as much of a slimeball when they try to say non-english words in the accent they originate from. Just listen to AOC say "Latino/a" and Mamdani say "Muhammad", "Islam" and "hijab."
