Will Cornell University ever regain its honor?

I think Cornell can regain its reputation, but that depends on what it does from here. A university’s reputation isn’t rebuilt by saying the right things. It’s rebuilt by how it handles difficult situations, protects students, supports free expression, and holds people accountable when things go wrong.

There are serious criticisms of Cornell right now, including its handling of a sexual assault case and concerns about free speech on campus. Those issues deserve to be taken seriously.

At the same time, I wouldn’t say Cornell has somehow lost everything that made it a respected university. It was ranked 13th globally by U. S. News in 2026, and Cornell is actively reviewing its policies and long term direction.

So personally, I think its future reputation will come down to what happens next. If the university learns from its mistakes and actually follows through with meaningful changes, people can regain trust. But that takes time.
