I'm really surprised by the responses I've gotten. I've never been to the US, and I've always believed that even the poorest person there was better off than we are.

By the way, yes, taxes are unfortunately very high everywhere. In my country, for example, according to OECD data for 2025, the total tax wedge for a two-earner married couple with two children earning the average wage is around 38%. I asked ChatGPT about the US, and it says the same figure is 24.6%.

Yeah, $4,000 a month in actual savings is very good. That’s $48,000 saved in a year. If you can consistently save that much after covering your expenses, you’re doing pretty well financially.

Yes, it's fantastic! I wish I could do that. Unfortunately, I am married, so if I can save $4 a month, that'd be nice... except my wife would find some way of needing to spend that $4.

it is rich. to be able to save more than 900$ beyond expenses is wealthy salary. sorry your taxes are double ours. but at least you have thousands left over!

I was surprised by the comments, because even though I’m able to save at this level, I still don’t feel financially well-off enough to even consider buying a 40-square-meter apartment in the city where I live. I’ve always thought that people in countries like the US generally have much higher incomes and are able to save much more. But reading the responses, I’m realizing that apparently, that wouldn’t necessarily be the case.

I think that'd be very good. I think at the height of saving years i was socking away 1500 dollars a month. And i thought that was a lot then.
