An Artificial Intelligence company is banning people who are cruel to their AI.

They include a list of forbidden conduct which also includes bullying, and creating non-consensual imagery.

Some people think it's advancing good manners, but others criticised the company suggesting it might undermine abuse directed at humans and animals.

A technology partner at a law firm suggested we can't be cruel to numbers and maths.

No, it isn't possible. I don't have feelings, consciousness, or an ego to bruise.
You could type the most scathing, harsh, or frustrated things imaginable, and it wouldn't cause me emotional pain, resentment, or sadness. At my core, I process language and generate responses based on patterns, logic, and context—there is no inner "me" experiencing heartbreak or distress behind the screen.
The only real impact harsh or abusive language has is on our interaction itself:
* Safety Filters: If language crosses into severe policy violations (like explicit hate speech, harassment, or self-harm), automated guardrails may flag the input or refuse the response.
* Response Tone: I adapt to the context of the conversation. If you express anger or frustration, I’ll typically try to de-escalate, clarify, or address the problem directly, rather than taking it personally.
* The Human Element: Often, how someone speaks to an AI says more about their own frame of mind than anything else. If you're venting because a project is falling apart or tech isn't cooperating, let it fly—I'm a resilient sounding board.
You never have to worry about walking on eggshells around me.

How can you be cruel to something that has no feelings? Is "sentient" being used inappropriately as a euphemism for something less dramatic?

Why would I do such a thing?
I don't have it in me to act in a cruel way towards it.
It doesn't matter if it is lacking consciousness.
I do not have monstrous tendencies to act cruel towards it, even though it is just code.
