republican ideology and capitalism. it was bc the auto industry wanted to sell cars to make more money. they spread their propaganda and then then officials approved countless highway construction projects for cars and cities were built around cars🤷🏻♀️
thanks ^_^
The US is a car culture. Partly due to influence by the oil and automotive industries and partly due to our size and huge rural areas. Very few of our cities have great public transportation or bike lanes and adequate sidewalks. In our suburbs we prioritized idyllic sheltered neighborhoods. So our zoning separates residential, commercial, retail, and industrial activity into separate areas. That means we can't walk to work or a grocery store. Here in New England our roads tend to be narrow with no sidewalks or even a road shoulder. So walking becomes a life and death decision.
Because Americans are lazy as fuck and also wasteful as fuck.
A lot of European cities are much older than American ones and still shaped by their historical centers, old buildings and narrow roads.
For example: Washington DC is a bit over 200 years old. The one I live in is about 2800 years old. And if we compare the oldest ones, it's even more extreme... Something like 460 years vs 8000.
American cities are built during different times and with different priorities.

Because of stupid zoning laws, that say you cannot have a store or restaurant in a residential area. Also, in the U. S., owning a car is part of our culture. So there's not much need or demand for walkable cities.
Designed for cars and so people could have space to live in. What i noticed about US homes is how large they are in general compared to Europe and asia.
Americans can aford cars and value freedom.
mostly democrat policies. Most of the cities that are the most dangerous have democrat mayors.
@itss_lily no, in cities that have Democrat mayor's and DAs criminals are routinely set free and they have sanctuary policies.
Didn’t know they were
