I think part of it comes down to ideology. Many people on the political right believe that people should be allowed to keep more of the money they earn, especially if they believe the government wastes tax revenue. They see lower taxes as a way to encourage investment, create jobs, and reward hard work.

However, I think there's a difference between supporting lower taxes and defending wealthy people who evade taxes or exploit loopholes to avoid paying what they legally owe.

Some conservatives argue that wealthy people have already paid taxes on their earnings and shouldn't be penalized simply for becoming successful. Others believe that complicated tax laws allow the rich to benefit from advantages that ordinary workers don't have, and that the system needs reform.

I also think politics plays a role. When people identify strongly with a political party, they sometimes defend wealthy individuals who share their ideology, even when those individuals' financial interests don't necessarily align with their own. This isn't exclusive to the right, either. Both political parties have wealthy donors and supporters whose interests can influence policy.

What I find most interesting is that some ordinary people will defend tax advantages for billionaires even when those same advantages do nothing to improve their own financial situation. Sometimes, people support a principle they believe in; other times, they identify with the idea of someday becoming wealthy themselves.

Ultimately, I don't think the question should be whether rich people deserve to keep their money. Of course, they should be entitled to what they legally earn. The real question is whether the tax system applies fairly to everyone, whether people with greater resources can exploit loopholes unavailable to ordinary workers, and whether everyone is expected to follow the same rules.

You can support capitalism, oppose excessive taxation, and still believe that wealthy people should pay the taxes they legally owe. Those positions aren't contradictory.

because the wealthy people are the ones who fund both of their campaigns... the Left and the Right, alike

most, if not all of the wealthy people today... new and old, would not be in this position without the Left and Bill Clinton...

so, don't make it about "just one side plays to the rich"

    it's definitely both of them

If you calculate the tax as a percentage of income, they don't pay much, not even close to it, but of course, people on the right won't calculate it that way. They just look at the raw numbers. This is Stockholm syndrome at its finest, where people literally protect and defend their aggressors in the hopes that nothing even worse will be done to them.

a portion of those people are those business owners and corporate staff. you tend to vote in favor of your company so you keep your job. that's probably 20% of his base. the other 1-10% is the hillbillies and soon to be inherited generational wealth recipients.

If it’s legal, it’s fair. If you don’t like it, change the laws. Most of the loopholes rich people use were put there because some bleeding heart small business or community group argued loudly enough that a simple law wasn’t fair (to them). You reap what you sow. It turns out rich people have good lawyers. Who woulda thunk it?

Trump said it best that if the left really cared about the wealthy paying their taxes theyd change the tax code.

Defending wealthy people while scare-mongering to the uneducated is what keeps them in power.
