Sometimes I sit back and wonder how much social media has changed the way people see themselves and their relationships.
One thing I've noticed is people posting pictures with their partners or family members and asking strangers online if they look good together. And it makes me wonder, when did we start needing the approval of other people to feel good about the people we love? If you're happy with your partner, why does it matter so much whether strangers think you look good together? 💔
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with sharing pictures or wanting a little reassurance. But sometimes I wonder whether people are more concerned about how their relationships look to the public than how those relationships actually feel behind closed doors. Are we choosing partners because we genuinely connect with them, or are looks, money, popularity, and social status becoming more important than love and compatibility?
And relationships aren't the only area where social media seems to affect people.
People compare their bodies to edited pictures and start feeling unattractive. They see someone traveling, buying a house, getting married, or showing off an expensive lifestyle, and suddenly feel like they're failing in life. Someone can be perfectly happy with what they have until they spend an hour scrolling through other people's highlight reels.
Even friendships have become affected. Some people measure how much they're loved by birthday posts, likes, comments, and how often someone shows them off online. Others feel left out when they see friends hanging out without them. People can start questioning their own worth because of things that might mean very little in real life.
Then there's the pressure to look happy all the time. People sometimes feel they must present a beautiful life online even when they're struggling privately. It's almost as if being happy isn't enough anymore 😢😞
