What would you do if you had/have a friend that is so obsessed with their romantic partner, that they get so defensive?

For example, if you haven't met their romantic partner yet and than you say something like"I hope he/she is nice." And they get all defensive and say,"what do you mean, of course she/he is." And they get a defensive tone or you make a joke about their partner and they react like a baby. And the joke wasn't a feb offensive. Like extreme obsession that you feel you are walking on eggshells with the friendship.

I had to break the friendship with a friend that started obsessed with his online girlfriend at first falling romantically in love with her in seconds and same with her towards him and than he moved to another state to be with her, than he is still obsessed with her till this day. He brought up during an argument how I told him to look at a woman's ass in Walmart in 2016 while he was just in an online relationship. What do you think?

@molonski2 Jacob and I have been friends from junior High on and than our mid 20s he met someone online and fell romantically in love with her within seconds. She was in Florida zwe are in Cali. She fell in love with him within seconds after talking online too. Thank eventually he moved to be with her in person in Florida. I never met her in person. That is the first time he meets her in person although they talked numerous times on video chat. They fell in love before seeing how each other looks like online. When he moved he was fine with communication but than he sucked and only contacted me mainly for favors, emergencies that happened with me or him or birthdays. I told him to stop mainly contacting me for first for that and also only contact me first to see how I am doing. He did it but went back to the same shit. I had enough ans cussed him out. He played victim and brought up old shit from 2016 how I told him to look at a woman's ass in person when he was just in an online relationship with his current wife. Understand me? What do you think?
