Let me be clear, I have nothing against people enjoying the money they've worked hard for. If you can afford a luxury car, designer clothes, expensive holidays, or a beautiful house, that's your business. There's nothing wrong with celebrating your achievements or sharing moments you're proud of.
But sometimes, it feels like there's a difference between sharing your happiness and deliberately using your wealth to make others feel small. Some people constantly show off their money, possessions, and lifestyle in ways that seem less about enjoying what they have and more about proving they're above everyone else. And what bothers me is when the attention and sense of superiority they receive seem to be the whole point.
Not everyone scrolling through social media is in the same financial position. Someone might be struggling to pay rent, feed their children, or find a job. Imagine opening your phone every day and being bombarded with people showing off things you can barely dream of affording. Of course, everyone is responsible for their own emotions, but we shouldn't pretend that constant comparison has no effect on people's self esteem.
What makes it worse is that social media rarely shows the full picture. We see the cars, vacations, and designer outfits, but we don't always know how that lifestyle was funded or what someone's life looks like behind the scenes.
My issue isn't wealth. It's the use of wealth as a tool for humiliation and dominance. There's a difference between being successful and needing everyone else to feel unsuccessful beside you.
So, if you could ban one thing from social media, what would it be? š¤
