Donald Trump said something like “Barack Hussein Obama got into college for different reasons than you did. He’s not a smart guy.”

To me it sounds like Donald Trump was suggesting former president Obama only got accepted into college for having dark skin.

It's a bit racist. Obama was a stoner in high school and probably benefited from some entitlement programs considering he was black and had a single mom but to say he's not a smart guy is obviously not true. Obama made the most of every opportunity in an unlikely path to the White House. He definitely wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth. I'm no fan of Obama's politics but let's be real, he earned the support from a lot of really smart people. Smart people won't support dumb presidents.

I think most people get what Trump was driving at. Problem is there's another side to that coin. Systemic racism does exist. It's just not overt racism anymore. And when Barack was going to school it wasn't like the 60's but it was still much worse than it was today. We try to build a better society with each generation. But there will always be people who were raised racist. They cannot push their racist ideologies out in the open anymore. But they can push them behind the scenes. That's why affirmative action exists. Which is basically what Trump is talking about. I don't even think Trump really cares. But he's just trying to stoke anger. Because that is his bread and butter. This country is still 72% white. 54 to 55% vote republican. 83% of black voters vote Democrat. You don't have to be a genius to see why Trump is doing this. His thought process is if i create boogie men and i am your protector, you'll support me and the Republican party. Because we're what's protecting you. All politicians do this to a degree. Trump just can do it with impunity.
