If you were an executioner, would you try to make it quick and painless, or would you try to torture the person?

Talking about if you were involved in a legal execution, would you want to make it quick and painless for the person that you're executing, or would you want to torture the person? I ask because I believe that at least some of you think that things like torture are a good idea.

As an animal keeper I was told that my duties could possibly include assisting with euthanasia from time to time (sodium pentobarbitol injection). I informed them that the only circumstance under which I would agree to this would be to relieve extreme pain and if the creature had no hope of recovery with any quality of life. It still weighs on you. I'll never assist in any such thing agin.

there's no justice when some executioner does it for you. you do it yourself or you will be haunted by it forever. like if a family had a daughter murdered by someone. they get to choose the mode of death. equal death or some other acceptable method. torture i think is the point of prison. it's mental torture for people and it's supposed to be rough not rehabilitative.

@MrChinaski well, that might be right but my only point here was that if I take that role, living in a democratic country with a death penalty, it wouldn't be my decision on how the person will be executed. There will be a million laws and regulations related to that and it's not me deciding that I only give half the amount of poison or voltage required to make it more painful or shoot first 3 times in his legs...

But since I'm strictly against the death penalty (and couldn't kill anyone anyway) and I'm living in a country/union where it's banned, not gonna happen anyway.

@goaded I was in the house one day when one of my sisters began essentially kind of wallowing around on the floor, her eyes rolled back. She has a degenerative hip and was being prescribed fentanyl patches at the time. She managed to put two on. EMT said 15 minutes more and that would have been all. She did seem oblivious to be fair. Dangerous stuff.

I'd have to agree with that assessment. The sodium petnobarbitol mentioned in my answer seems to be consistantly fast and just... lights out as well. The dosage would be massive for a human sized animal though, really undoable.
