+1 yFirst things first - wish you a very VERY Happy Birthday. May you always be blessed with the best in life this day, year and for eternity :)
Ok now for your question.
1. Yes I don't bother with or celebrate my birthday for various reasons cause I grew up with my parents cursing at times in a fit of rage that my birth had brought bad luck to them (cause the business had collapsed when I was born - though it had even before I got out ;) ).
2. My younger sibling (a year's difference exactly) was the most pampered through all childhood while I was the neglected one ;) he as better looking and farier (In India the phrase 'Tall Dark & Handsome' converts to 'Tall FAIR & Handsome' lol). Friends and relatives would love playing with him but ignore me completely etc. BUT things changed by the time we hit college, I was the guy with the women running after me, the winner always, the more aggressive person, a leader etc something that my sibling is unable to accept till date ;) - I don't like the situation this way though.
3. Once while in college i.e. in my teens I saw a guy who used to lurk around where we stayed. He was once a successful guy who lost his family, property and money to alcoholism; running around and telling everyone that it was his birthday. That day it struck me that everyone is happy for their birthday no matter what condition they are in. The point was WHO ELSE IS HAPPY ON YOUR BIRTHDAY? I bought him clothes, his booze, food thorugh the day etc but again the question lingered.
4. Today I am described as 'strikingly handsome', 'good and aggressive boss' (with ofcourse lots of people who are jealous, envious and full of hatred' lol but who cares), a great father (though I'm separated and my child doesn't live with me).
4.1. The idea was that though I didn't see any reason to celebrate my birthday staying in a shell would never have worked.
4.2. I watched out for people who love me against those who don't - THEY want to celebrate it and THAT matters!
4.3. 'The world worships the rising sun' is a fact so why stay in the shadows. Fight for what you want to be and continue fighting. Winning or losing is a matter of circumstances, opportunity etc but accepting / conceding defeat is a choice ;)
4.4. Sulking and feeling bad for oneself doesn't achieve anything, get up and move only when you'll find some that are worth living for
4.5. Those who don't love you certainly don't matter, what matters is who you love (even if they don't love you in return which is immaterial) and those who love you :)
Good luck to you young lady, do well. Good luck & god speed. You have a lovely birthday and I'm sure all here including me will always pray for you and be with you whenever they can in any form!00 Reply

+1 yhappy birthday!
I remember around 19 feeling less interested and by the time I was 20 not caring at all (except for the milestones 16, 18, 21)
I don't think it's that we care less but I think it's more the maturity. I'm pretty sure the reason I was so amped for my birthday was because I knew it meant presents, parties, cake. Aside from the fact that I can do all that for myself on any given day now all of the above just aren't as exciting or important to me
I think another aspect is at some point we don't really want to get any older do we? Maybe we want to turn 21 so we can drink legally but every birthday means more responsibility, less innocence, and closer to death right?00 Reply
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yI still care about my birthday to an extent. I like having my family and close friends nearby. I usually just do dinner and then cake afterward but its not a big deal. I haven't had a real birthday party since I was 14 or 15.
Once I went to college, it got especially tough to celebrate since my birthday always fell during finals and everyone was too busy studying.00 Reply
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yWell Happy Birthday and I stopped like around 16 or 17..I was more excited about driving and all that good stuff at 16 so that made up for celebrating any birthdays. Now I'm like 21 and it's just a very chilled day those days I don't expect much so it is what it is as long as I have cake though it's a good day lol.

+1 y18. I was in another state at the time and had no friends to celebrate with. After that birthday things went down hill. My birthday has just become another day. Ill be 21 in 2 months and not even looking forward to the day. Just the befits that will follow lol

not everyone has to celebrate just because you and everyone else does. My kids will be happy and they will have the world. They don't just get gifts on Xmas and birthdays they will get gifts anytime of the year, day, time or month. I never had a birthday and never wanted one because my mother was this way. Holidays are very selfish! that's why people only give during Xmas and Thanksgiving is only about giving thanks for that day. no thanks! My grew up the same religion and I'm fine.
- +1 y
Giving a gift is never selfish!
All I'm saying is you think it's selfish to celebrate birthdays, but isn't taking their special day away from them selfish in itself? Yes you could make EVERYDAY special, but then that makes everyday ordinary, & "special" loses it's meaning. You give gifts whenever you want, that's nice, but they will never know what it feels like to have ONE day out of the entire year dedicated solely to them! That's selfish on your part! but, everyone has their own beliefs. - +1 y
well that's good for you and your family. My family has never celebrated them and never will and my future children won't either. Its selfish to have a day and feel like its only your day and nobody else matters, its selfish to only ask or give to charity one time of the year and if you notice they don't ring the bells in front of the stores year round it only happens during Xmas because they know people are in the "giving" mood. You can raise your family your way and I'm raising mine my way :)
Happy birthdayy toooo youuuuuu haaaapppy birrthdaaay too youuuuuuu happy birthdaaay anonymouus uuser happy birhtday tooo youuuuuuuuuuuu *applause* Whoop Whoop! Alright! Blow out the candles anonymous user! YEah blow out the candles!
*psshhhhh* (candles fizzling out) WTF ANONYMOUS?!? Not with water!
Lol totally went sideways there. Back on topic I reckon late teens I stopped caring. I stopped celebrating it earlier though, or just with the fam never made a huge deal of it.00 Replynever celebrated my boyfriend and never will. Even for my kids they will never have one. mainly because people are so selfish on their birthday. They feel like the day is all about them and 2. my family gives gifts just because they think about you hence why we never celebrated holidays either
07 Reply- +1 y
How sad for you kids. I respect your point of view, but just because you find it selfish doesn't mean it's okay to ruin their childhood... Especially from the ages of 3 and 10. My best friend from Junior High, was always sad, because her parents were from a religion that doesn't celebrate anything at all... and it's not just about gifts. You should know that.
- +1 y
And we also buy stuff for each other, and not only on birthday/x-mas and the like. Especially my 3 year old nephew.. I always buy something for him! Yet, he gets super excited for every birthday, even if it's not his! Just the cake and candles makes his day amazing! It's awesome to see him so excited over it. :]!
- +1 y
So is my nephew, but it's a different type of excitement every time! But they will never experience it. Anyway, celebrating the day the were born does not mean nobody else matters, if you think that way that's a sad way to look at it.. but like you said... we all do what we want, so raise them as you please. Sweet day!
+1 yid have to say around 10-12 years old. always had dinner with family or a small party but I didn't really care what happened.
i started playing my birthday up in college. everyone wants to take shots with the birthday boy! and there's always a few girls that are just very very nice to me that night ;)00 ReplyNot sure...was a slow downward spiral...brought on by the fact that no one gave a sh*t anymore and I became aware that people liked to use my birthday as an excuse to get what THEY wanted to eat...Now I like to be alone..maybe leave by myself for the weekend..and then I can eat & drink EXACTLY what I please..(:(:(:
00 ReplyHappy Birthday! I stopped CARING about my birthday when I was about 15 or 16. It's just another regular day for me. But even though I stopped caring about my birthday a few people (mainly family) still want to celebrate it even if it's just a little celebration. So I guess I'm still celebrating lol.
+1 ymaybe you don't care because no one cares? just a thought. but I never liked birthdays. and now I don't wanna celebrate it but my parents always throw a party. when I tell them I don't want anything for my birthday they laugh at me thinking I'm joking. and that's every f***ing year.

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yHey, my birthday was yesterday too, happy birthday to both of us!
I turned 22, and it pretty much was a normal day for me. I didn't get a single call besides some family members.
I think after 21 it loses its specialness, it's just another year older haha00 Reply
+1 y10 , last birthday I ever celebrated.
It's just another day to me now, even as an adult I always end up having to work and my friends are always busy so I don't even bring it up to them.10 Reply
Anonymous(25-29)+1 yWhen I turned 13 I stopped caring about my birthday. Now I completely hate it, because I feel old. I'll be 17 next time, and I feel like a old failure, seriously I won't be long until Im old and undesirable. I don't even have time to fin a boyfriend, before Im too ugly -.-

+1 yAround 16. It's just another day to me now.
Although, it's not like its the end of the world if someone says happy birthday.
So in that case. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!00 Reply
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yProbably around 12-13. I am 22 now. The only ones I cared about after that were 16 (license), 18 (gambling), and 21 (alcohol). But it had nothing to do with the actual date. It was more about what I get to do now.

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yAs I look back, crap how old does that make me feel? Birthdays when we are young are so significant when can I get out of 3rd grade, 6th grade, Drive, go to High School, when can I move out from the parent's, drink etc. After that the real point of the Birthday goes away except for the gifts, attention, and ignoring the passing years!

00 Reply18 years of age, the reason being I recognized I no longer wanted to be a burden on my family by demanding presents or money, I am just thankful that I have a family to begin with. :]
