My fat roommate keeps putting the heat really low, how do I stop her?

How do I get her to stop?

It is at 55degrees a lot.

I have never put it up THAT high...once at 75 when I was drunk but usually it is at 72.

She is backstabbing and extremely bitchy and puts everyone down. How do I get her to stop?

Yeah...we don't get along. She was a backstabbed. Now I can see her for what she really is physically and emotionally.

My friends were horrified when I told them what she did. Also heard her talking about my love life during sex...weird.



Us not getting along is important to the question because it is easier to talk with someone reasonable who you are friends with about these things!

I had a roommate that did the exact same thing. Even by changing it by one degree lower ( in the winter) or one degree high (in the summer) just to act like she had control over the rest of us. The worst part was when we all went home for the summer while she stayed at our apartment alone, I came back one day to grab a few things and saw she'd had the a/c up way higher than we ever set it to. So clearly she was only doing it to exert power.

All I can suggest is that you don't live with her again once your lease is up, and to talk with her about the situation regarding the heat now. This might sound bad, but this is what I had to do once. If she refuses to compromise whatsoever, then you start taking things away to make the living situation harder for her. For example, if you brought the community TV or dishes or anything else, she's no longer allowed to use them. You convey this by saying, "If you refuse to compromise as a roommate, then we need to start doing everything separately, which starts with (your tv, dishes, couch, etc.)"

It usually gets the message across real quick that turning the heat up to a compromised temperature isn't worth losing all of the comforts you've been sharing.

The living was bearable, but unfortunately a war happened when it was time to collect our security deposits when we moved out. She decided that we should've paid some bills she had that summer, AND pay to fix something she broke in the apartment. She said she would refuse to sign the check for all of us to get our money back until we paid her these things. We didn't end up having to since what she was doing was illegal, but I haven't spoken to her since.

Why did you feel the need to include her weight? I get that fat people tend to generate more body heat but was it really necessary? Did you hope that fat shaming would move people to your side?

At any rate, perhaps the two of you can find a place to meet in the middle. She might be burning up at 72 (I personally keep the house at like 80 degrees so I don't see how 72 is hot) and you're freezing at 55 so maybe you should just keep it at 64.

72 isn't hot. If it was MY way it would be WAY higher. When I went to Spain it was 90 with no air conditioner and I LOVED it. lol (Yeah I know that's not normal...)

I'm the same way. Where I live, the typical summer day is well over 100. But you have no claim over the temperature due to your size any more than she does to hers.

I was COMPROMISING saying between those. SO because she is bigger, she doesn't have the right to make it colder JUST LIKE I am aware I have no right to make it hotter.

If it was me I would find something that would annoy her to hell and if she complains about what I'm doing I'd tell her to leave the heating at a reasonable heat or I'll just annoy the living hell out of here until she stops being a stupid twat and starts being reasonable.

You could try talking it out with her maybe.If she is unreasonable or become violent or anything it may be best to get a new roommate or relocate for your own saftey...and 55... damn that's cold...lol...maybe get a sweater or a snuggie :D putting the temperature on 55 during winter time... not a good idea -.- ha ha are you stuck being her roommate because she pays half the rent?
