Girls want to feel protected. What exactly do they mean?

girls always say that they want to feel protected when they're with their boyfriends. what does a guy need to do to make his girl feel safe and protected? I don't get it. some girls even say they only want to date taller men, because they wouldn't feel protected with a smaller one. some say they don't want to date slim boys due to the same reason. girls: protecting from what? we don't live in the stone age anymore! your boyfriend doesn't need to wrestle grizzly bears or something like that ;)

i just want to know what you mean by that and what your boyfriend needs to do to make you feel safe.

i like my men big enough to cuddle into like a big bear, not so you can feel his bones (ewww) I like cuddleing close and knowing that if something ever happened like we go robbed walking down the street or anything, or if any-one ever hurt me that he'd do everything to protect me. like I'm sure skinney guys would to but I don't get that feeling while hugging them.

ok like my ex was big mean looking guy to most people. every-one used to be scared for my safety by being with him (I should have listen to them all) but anyway I love the thought he'd kill some-one for me without caring if he went to jail and he would be strong enough to fight back if a bunch of guys had a go at us. (don't get me wrong I would every want him to do those things, but the thought was nice)

but to the question what does a guy need to do... well sorry but get bigger or find a girl who don't feel that way, find a big butch girl, who can fight for herself

You're a bit naive. there is no guy in this world that is able to protect you from everything. if 4 guys want to rob and rape you, then they will do it, no matter how strong your boy is. they just beat him up. if another girl threatens you with a gun, then your "big bear" is also unable to do anything. I understand why you feel more secure with the muscular guy, but you're just deluding yourself. if someone relly wants to hurt you, then your boy can't do anything about it.

I understand that but it's still nice to feel protected, which is what you ask wasn't it. "feel protected"? Btw what do you mean if some 'girl' threatened me with a gun? if they are threatening me with a gun, I'd thing it would be regardless wheather it was a guy or girl. my boyfriend was going to do something he's still do it to a girl.

besides I'm sure if some-one did hurt me my boy would definitely do something about it. What you wouldn't do a thing??

It depends on the situation. I once defended my girl because a big guy (about 6'5) was hitting on her. I just attacked his adam's apple and he felt on the floor, unable to breathe (for a short time), because I punched him too hard. I regret it cause the guy made a complaint to the police. I made a big mistake. I'm much smarter now. I will defend her, but I will not risk to get in jail or to get murdered. I'm not as stupid as your boy. sorry!

The example with the girl and the gun is just there to prove you that even a physically weak person is able to put your boy in his place. by the way, even a physically weak person is able to beat up a “big bear”. i’ve seen a little asian guy beating up a big bully. He totally dominated him, cause he was quicker, smarter and faster. Fighting technique is much more important than body type. I’m athletic and I’d rather fight a big muscular guy than a little experienced fighter.

My opinion (probably useless but hey!) I think when it comes to dating men who are taller, wider is because when they hold you you feel safe in their arms! And the protection thing, I know I like to feel that my man is concerned for my safety, for instance if I was walking to the shop late at night he would want to walk with me. This might sound silly but I met a guy who insisted on holding my hand whilst walking and would always walk on the outside nearest the road because of the cars.

Its not that we think we are unsafe, but we want to know if we did need looking after, you would be there and be able to protect us from the grizzly bears!

Yes, it's true that we don't live in the Stone Age anymore. But from an anthropological standpoint, larger men were more likely to protect a woman and her offspring. It's not exactly a necessity today, but it's still ingrained in our DNA. The same way that a man looks for a woman with large breasts and curvy hips. It's not because it's pretty, it's because women with that shape tend to be better child bearers. So when you look at a woman with large breasts, you may be consciously thinking about how fun sex would be however your subconscious inner cave man is thinking "make healthy babies." Women want to feel safe from invisible grizzly bears and men want to be able to spread their seed and make it stick. People, eh?

um I don't know how tall that is, but I'm only short myself. I don't think tallness comes into it. it's the way the hold you that's you feel protected. like I've bein buddles by guys the same size, some just just you feel safe others just don't for some reason. maybe it's a trust thing. I'm not sure

i just posed the question because so many girls on this page say that they want to feel protected. it made me think about me and my girl. I want to know what I need to do to make her feel safe. I thought you girls could help me :)

I'm not sure if this will help at all, but the reason a lot of women want to feel safe and protected is to do with DNA, as someone has said before. Personally, you don't need to be super tall or super built, but equally if you are tiny and stick thin or overweight it doesn't have the same effect. Just hugs, cuddling, holding hands, walking on the roadside of the pavement, helping with the little things, listening and telling her how much she means to you are some ways to make your girl feel more protected and safe. Trust is important for that, too.

When I say feel protected by boyfriend I'm talking about the feeling I get when I an in his arms. You might not like this but guyz my height hav never managed to rouse that feelin in me, so body structure also plays a role.
