Would you say 'Game of Thrones' is a show mostly for intelligent people?

I would have a hard time following the plot if I hadn't read the novels first because there's so much dialogue and that gets boring to follow. And I wouldn't call myself an unintelligent person by any means. The show is more fast paced than the books too, not providing much time for the viewers to establish connections with the characters before the story moves on. I love the books and I love this kind of high fantasy. The costumes, settings and props for the show are fantastic and that's primarily the reason I watch, for the visual aspect and and not the plot (because I obviously already know what's going to happen). It all depends on a person's taste in TV. Personally I go for comedy shows when I watch TV but Game of Thrones is the exception. I probably wouldn't enjoy it if I hadn't read the books already.

I don't think it is intelligence so much as ones ability to pay attention. There's a lot of dialogue and a lot of characters, each with their own complex story. It isn't hard to understand in my opinion, it only requires that one listens and watches. I read the books first, and the same is true for them...many minor characters rise to be important ones, and the reader must remember who they are (at least to some extent).

I've read the first 100 pages or so of the first book, and you sure do need a good memory to remember all them darn characters xD Although I expect its easier with the TV show :P My boyfriend loves Game of Thrones, and although it sounds rather explicit and odd, it does sound rather intellectual :o You must need a good memory to keep track of it :P

Game of thrones.. possibly the most boring show I have ever seen in my life. I thought it was going to be the best show I have ever seen after the first 10 minutes of the first episode, but then it just became non stop talking. and then some more talking... and some more... then some sex... them more talking. I wouldn't say it's for intelligent people though.. not like it's that hard to follow.

Agreed! Funny enough, I keep falling asleep after the gore and sex. lol I'm trying to give it a chance since everyone raves about it but there's something about medieval genres that puts me to sleep really easily...Fell asleep 4 times within the first two eppys of season 1...

I doubt it. I think producers and directors make shows to appeal to as many people as possible, not just a select few, so that they make as much money as possible.

LOL don't fool yourself dude. One of my friends goes crazy over that show and even the books and he can't even pass a urine test. I don't really like those types of shows and I'm practically a straight A student, so does that mean I am secretly dumb in some way?

The majority of the audience are intellectuals. This is probably due to the fact that it's fantasy. I've noticed most of the people that are into fantasy are intellectuals. That doesn't mean someone who isn't exactly "intelligent" can't enjoy the show though.

There is nothing challenging about game of thrones; neither the concept neither the word choice. Popular shows target a wider public to get better ratings, therefore; they are made to be understandable to the general public. Things that are challenging are things only a few people can comprehend and understand which will bring you to the right of the mean in the bell curve of the general population. Even my little sis watches game of thrones.

Nope I say it depends on your taste in genre like most entertainment. I'm pretty smart but warlocks, dungeons and dragons tend to bore me a little even if the desricption of the storyline sounds good.

There's some background stuff in GoT for really clever/well read people to get but for general enjoyment anyone can like it. Drama isn't just for smart people.

Not in the slightest. It tests your memory, and that's about it. Martin's plots become easier and easier to predict as the books/seasons go on.

I actually think quite the opposite. If you're too smart or you take it too seriously, you can't stand GoT.

Not at all. They make the show specifically to gear it to many people...the genre itself may make some people think they're intelligent, but it is still entertainment end of the day.

I don't watch it, just because the show doesn't sound appealing to me. I'm more into comedy series. I wouldn't consider myself that smart, but I'm not stupid either, just not into that genre.

I don't know if I'd call it a "smart people" show, but it's definitely not for the Disney Channel or Family Guy crowd.

Honestly, I find it to be pretty bland. I like the idea that pretty much the entire cast is scum and untrustworthy, but because of that it gets predictable quite quickly :/

Not in the slightest. The only challenging part of the show would be the large cast of characters, but even that is very easy to follow.
