Is it just me or is blocking someone on Facebook really immature?

Obviously blocking exes is excluded from that question because sometimes it's necessary to do so in order to move on. But I think blocking friends or former hookup buddies or whatever is a really immature and lame way to end things. Am I wrong? Thoughts?

(Note: I am saying this and implying that the blockee is batsh*t crazy and didn't do anything really to warrant the blocking. Obviously if you are a stalker-esque crazy person, you deserve to get blocked.)

I think it honestly depends on the situation.

A lot of people do it out of immaturity to make someone feel like "Oh no, you blocked me. You don't want me to be apart of your life. *sniffle*sniffle*"

I've blocked someone on Facebook because our friendship ended so badly that I sincerely never wanted to see her face again. I was so hurt and I honestly can't remember ever being so disappointed. She was the last person I expected to make me feel that way. I didn't want anything to do with her. I never wanted to speak to her again. I didn't want to see what she was doing or who's posts she was being tagged in. I couldn't have been more genuine when I said I wanted to entirely cut her out of my life. And to be honest, seeing her face and knowing how close we were and the bond we shared would really hurt me :( so apart of it is a defense mechanism. I never want to even think of giving her a second chance again.

my old roommate and I hooked up for a year or so and we got into an intense argument last night because he did something pretty hurtful and seemed really embarrassed and didn't want to talk about it but things didn't seem so bad to where it was the end of our friendship, but this morning I realized he blocked me on Facebook. he said nothing to me at all, just blocked me. I am just really confused

See now that's a situation where you can't just assume he's being immature. You need to talk to him and get answers.

I'd tell him that if there's a problem, he should say it to your face instead of using FB to speak for him

Depends on the situation. Like you said, if the blocking occurs over something as simple as a small fight, then I, personally, would say that's immature. But if it's over something bigger such as being harassed, then no, it is common sense to block that person. But it doesn't really matter if it's immature or not, when it comes down to it. If someone feels they need the privacy, then they should block the person, regardless of what other people would think about the action.

if a guy is sleeping around and has a girlfriend, chances are he doesn't want his girlfriend to find out and would block the girl that was constantly messaging him for a round 2 so to speak. obviously your friends aren't real friends if they block you

You block someone because you want privacy from the, or don't want to be potentially contacted by them. It's not immature.

i think if its someone you don't really talk to then yes that's fine but I feel like deleting someone from a social networking platform as a way to end a friendship or whatever is passive aggressive...am I wrong?
