1. Cheerleaders are dainty cute delicate things

Fact: Most cheerleaders are extremely athletic, in extremely good shape, and muscular. They have to be in shape to be able to hold up other girls and perform the tricks they do.

2. Being a cheerleader is easy.

Fact: It’s not at all easy as it looks the ones who are getting into it just to bag football players or be popular don’t last long. Because if your hearts not in it (not to say those girls can’t fall in love with it and become passionate). Also injuries…. Torn muscles, concisions from falling, botched tumbles, and even getting hit in the head by balls.

3. Cheerleaders are just eye candy for boys

Fact: Did you know cheerleaders also preform for girls sporting events? Yes, they are there to entertain the crowd and cheer on the team. But there is a lot more that goes on such as early morning practices, physical exhaustion, and guess what else… There is no off season… They perform year round.

4. Cheer is for girls who can’t play sports

Fact: Cheerleading is competitive meaning it is a sport they actually compete many non competitive cheerleaders are also playing other sports. As I said earlier it take a lot of skill, strength, and time. As well as having no off season.

5. Only girls are cheerleaders

Fact: False there are male cheerleaders too. They are very useful for things like doing pyramids holding the girls up, being able to chant loud, among other things.

6. Male cheerleaders are all gay

Fact: Some maybe yes but. Why do you think a lot of males would want to do cheer? Yes to be around pretty girls.

7. Cheerleaders are mean B!+€&£$

Fact: It’s like anything else there is cliques that think their shit don’t stink. But many are very humble genuinely sweet people.

I used to think a lot of these same clichés too at one point. Until you actually meet people and you only then start to fully respect what they do. People who say otherwise have probably never met any before.

@RavVid There’s dancing too but I think they’re mostly focused on the stunts. It all depends on the kind of cheer we are talking about too. There’s competitive cheer and there’s sideline cheering. Sideline cheering is like The Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders. They’re just dancers, they don’t even be flipping or anything.
But competitive cheer is another level

I think another misconception that is false is that all cheerleaders are ditzy blondes who seem to have no brains (tv shows and movies often do this)

I meant to post that actually and forgot. That is very true. Most have very high GPA’s in high school most were at least honors most were in AP classes.

Most are actually very academically advanced. The dumb ones don’t typically make it long you have to have a level of intelligence to master the rules and moves.

Then she went on to get a psych degree got married and had a kid.
