Its sort of like how people can enjoy movies. We know they are made by actors and that there is not really any plots to destroy the world or people in danger but its telling a story and showing a spectacle. Also in fake wrestling its also often really cheesy which also has a sort of appeal like how people enjoy obviously poorly made movies because they are poorly made.
WWE is probably the longest running soap opera ever! My ex husband loved it! I could get behind the the ass kicking I can get behind, that's what I want to see, but not the fucking drama and stories though... Not so much. I'm probably one of the few that dislike it, but I don't need a story, just kick each others asses and let me cheer and watch!
Sometimes I'll watch it with my kids, and I do get some enjoyment from it because I did enjoy watching it as a kid, but I just find it pretty funny. Personally, I can't understand grown men who watch WWE wrestling seriously and then talk about it as if it's real. It seems to be mostly American guys who do that for some reason.
I don't follow either but here are my thoughts. MMA is about fighting skill. Period. WWE is about super buff performers. They are big, strong actor/entertainer/stuntmen. They are also accomplished athletes who endure great punishment and pain in the performance of their art. Their personas, voices and bodies are similar to movie super heroes/villains. I can see how people can enjoy watching both, but for different reasons.
There's this huge misconception about pro-wrestling being completely "fake". Sure, the wrestlers aren't actually fighting and the outcomes are pre-determined but what wrestlers put their bodies, is the furthest thing from a cake walk or "safe. Even MMA fighters who were also pro wrestlers like Ken Shamrock and Brock Lesnar, will tell you that pro wrestling is tougher and much more physically taxing on them since they constantly perform no less than 300 days a year.
I used to like WWF/E, mostly in part because my dad liked it so I ended up liking it too. But it’s mostly fun to watch because of the endless drama that ensues.
Wrestling is about entertainment, it's basically a soap opera with fight scenes.
I train MMA myself, and I enjoy wrestling occasionally, and some of them ARE skilled grapplers - you have to be to do a lot of that stuff safely without hurting someone.
I love mma. Wrestling, I think I like the stunts they do, like the crazy flips. As for the faking, WWE is more like a series you watch on tv, it is rehearsed
In MMA and real fights u rarely get to see cool moves or rare tapouts. Most of the fights are won just by punch and kick counts. In WWE we get to see everything that happens rare in a real fight. Ie. Different submission moves, weapons, TLC. Thats y WWE being staged it has lot of public support.
My guess is it's the equivalent of liking documentaries and drama of the same genre. I can enjoy a crime documentary and then follow it by watching a crime drama... there's no contradiction in that, just as there is no contradiction in liking MMA and liking professional wrestling.
@1828avaava1828 No I agree completely liking one thing does not rule out liking a similar thing regardless of the aspect! Drama/real life/ sports entertainments are all important tools but don't determine the person.
When my dad used to watch wrestling on TV, it was all so obviously fake we'd laugh out loud. Then it became a "show", like Ringling Bros, and it was a real circus only with well built guys. Then cage fighting came along, where people really DID beat the shit out of each other !!
I was never a fan of watching beating beat the shit out of each other, unless it was on skates !! Yeah, hockey !!
I like both cause I can separate both of them and really I grew up with fake wrestling. Even though I know its fake I can appreciate the stunts they pull and the bumps they take. I mean if I had to shorten this for you there are MMA figthers who go from real fighting to fake wrestling and vice versa.
I don’t watch wrestling personally, but combat sports , entertainment etc, like anything can be traced back in time to shared origins. So you’ll find pro wrestling and elements of mma can be traced back to old school catch wrestling done in travelling carnivals. So I would say look for shared techniques etc and be curious to learn how they have evolved and branched off into there own unique styles.
Wrestling is theater. It can border on the ridiculous or it can border on hyper real. MMA is a contact sport. For some people they are apples and oranges (which I assume is your case) and for some, they look similar and can't tell the big difference.
I am a fan of both. Love MMA because it is a sport (even if I hate the UFC since they got bought by WME) and love wrestling because it is entertaining.
by the way. Nice crush! She is amazing in the octagon

not everyone needs buckets of blood to be spilled to enjoy watching a fight. Professional wrestlers are highly trained and incredibly athletic, and a lot of us enjoy seeing the moves they're able to pull off in the wring. The impact of the hits don't have to be "real" in order for the move to be impressive. And at least wrestling is honest about what they are. If you look at the UFC, they've withheld positive drug test results until after their PPV events take place. That's some shady shit that some of us don't appreciate.
@Dummy23 this is because you are only 22 and WWE started to suck around 2002. So you weren't around to see the best days of wrestling or too young when they were happening. Watch the old stuff.
@Dummy23 Back in the day it was totally different people believed it was real and it tugged on our emotions. It made the fans care. These days it is just guys and girls doing cool moves and not even looking hurt after getting hit with them.
Yeah we argue a lot that cannot be real in teenage& during school... Lots of fighting were there... Strong arguments... By the way luckily I am not be a fan of This fake wrestling?
The fake story lines are fun, for the less significant matches in the WWE aren’t staged as much as the main event, main event like Cena v the rock is staged but Dolph Zigler versus the mize usually isn’t staged
Two different things. One is a competition, the other is a performance. Your question is like asking a football fan why they liked "Friday Night Lights" or "The Longest Yard".
There's big money in the wrestling entertainment business. Lucrative contracts incorporate large salaries and/or retainers plus a percentage from ticket & merchandise sales.

That's much more than 2-3 fights per year that top MMA fighters typically do.
I used to like WWF/E, mostly in part because my dad liked it so I ended up liking it too. But it’s mostly fun to watch because of the endless drama that ensues.
Yes, it seems that those who have been saying that they like it are siting that reason :)
Yeah, the fighting is obviously fake lol, it’s mostly the dramatic storylines that draws viewers in.

Nice to have you back - I missed you! :)
I missed your questions. With quarantine being here, I thought the time would be right to come back here. It feels good to be!

@AndrewMG read my answer! I’m a nerd on this subject! I watched since I was 5.
I could write a way more in depth answer than I did but nobody would get it

Yeaong time martial art fan and I could never enjoy wwe. Never could draw me in
That's where I am at so far as well :)
Yea my girlfriend likes it tho. She tell me it's more about the drama then the actual fighting at least for her. It's like a play
