I don't want to root for my alma mater, due to bullying, is it normal?

I graduated the University of South Florida back in 2013. But I regret it, due to bullying and racist comments that I endured at the hands of the frats and sorirites.

Then, I moved back to Boca Raton decided to do a second degree at Florida Atlantic University in 2019 (still there due to not wanting loans) and I was surprised at the friendlness of the people there.

Yes, there's jerks everywhere, but FAU had less compared to USF. Even though I never graduated FAU (I am still enrolled), I want to root for them and not the Bulls.

I have already donated away all my USF gear to the Salvation Army and only wear FAU. People are chastizing me for not wanting to root for my alma mater, but I had such a bad experience there that the only USF thing I own is my degree.

I was watching a game between USF and UCF and people were surprised at me cheering for the Knights instead.

Am I insane? Am I going mad? Am I the only one who refuses to root for his alma mater due to bullying?

You really need to ask yourself how can you support a place that is not so supportive of you? They're supposed to represent something in me while they're giving themselves a bad name. You are not at fault. Those type of people are. You're not responsible for what they chose to do. You don't have to do anything you do not want to do. So you need to tell us he was it in the mind her own business because they don't know you, they don't know your life, they don't know what you been through. And if they really don't care, then they're showing themselves out to be fake people. You don't have to deal with them and you owe those people no explanation. Period. I know firsthand what a Busick white. Anybody who tolerates that because they are so obsessed with worshipping what they're supposed to be representing or whatever they want to claim they're doing, it's on them. They chose to make that their god.

Asker, at the same time this is something you have to get healed and move on from. You have your reasons, but if you feel like you never really fit in there, then you can't keep those things. Again, you don't have to explain to people why you have to do that. That the same thing I had did by not having a yearbook years ago because I felt I wasn't truly part of the schools I went to. It hurts, but it hurts worse your being reminded of it.

I understand Asker, but you have to learn to let it go. There isn't much you can do about your past, but you can for your future. What matters is that you get to where you need to be at in life and leave the past in the past.

How is it that you got bullied by fraternities and sororities if you were not a member?

It's really simple. You don't have to be part of anything in order for you to truly be bullied. Fraternities and sororities have greater influences like celebrities. Anything that they do, other people will listen. That's what it means to be a victim because when people use their powers influence in a bad way, somebody ends up getting hurt. Why do you think there was so many crimes being done in these places and they think they don't have to take personal responsibility? That's how people are today. Plus the fraternity and sorority methods demonic in the first place. I would advise anybody to not be part of anything that is displeasing to God, let alone Be involving a place, that promote such things.

No. But I have friends who have and have family members in freemasonry which is exactly what that is. A secret society, blood sacrifice, and a cult. I don't have to be in it for the devil to try to tempt me to do so. I'm an honors student. So I know. And have been invited to something similar. If you have no business in there and aren't covered by God to do so, you have no idea what you're signing up in for a brotherhood. It's witchcraft. And high witches operate in there.

Fraternities and sororities are not the same thing as freemasonry. I am not a mason but I doubt that freemasonry involves blood cults and sacrifices.

I am a member of a fraternity and an advisor to my fraternity's chapter at a local university. It is a Christian organization. We have many pastors and other religious leaders who are members of the fraternity and who actively support us.

Of course, when you get an organization with 250 chapters and 100,000 active members, some of them will end up being undesirable characters. That does not mean that something is wrong with fraternities and sororities. By that logic, your religion should be condemned because of the actions of the Westboro Baptist Church.

I heed God's warnings. If you are not careful and don't ask God in all things what you should and shouldn't do, that is how you end up in a trap. These greek things have ties to dark forces and I have done my research. Enough to know they have Christian versions of this which are no different it is the same. Do you think you're just going to get these things for free without a price? Initiation these days may "appear" harmless, but their called rituals for a reason. It is not zealotry. It's facts. That's why I now ask people which god are they serving. I now have learned just because people say they're Christian or what they believe in is Christian, not all are God's people or are of God. It also depends on how far are you willing to go just to get certain things. Either you dabble into parties sexually, drugs, alcohol, etc. The same with celebrity parties to get contracts and things. There is a reason why some people quit those places. After seeing one of my friends become part of the brotherhood, (forgot which one) but it's one of he higher ones he gained thing almost instantly and his grades were average back in HS. It isn't always an indicator of how you do in college, but from what I have always known of him he always been average. Everything seems immediately paved for him, and after seeing him "signing", I knew he did something he shouldn't have. It is an invitation-only so it is a lot more than just "hard work" to be reconized. If this was so innocent why only but few get picked and most are from people who came from families who already participated in the brother/sisterhood and witchcraft? Again, I know a lot more about that than people think. And I've dealt with witches before. It's all witchcraft, even in college. I advise anyone before even thinking about jumping in it to do their thorough research, pray on it and not be tempted by the $100K + scholarships, preference in jobs, and other college opportunities because you lack.

How am I being self-righteous when God already revealed that to me? Does God not have messengers, prophets, and those who he called to tell the truth? There is nothing self-righteous about speaking things in truth and in love and having discernment of these things. I had a feeling and sensed that you were in it, without having to say it as I was told that you were. Frat and sonorities are very much the same, but there are different levels. It is not about religion but what God says for us not to do and what not to get into. That is very much not of God. And anybody who participates knowing, they have to answer for that. What your saying is why there are literally problems in the church because you end up cursing it. Your proving why so many people have a hard time trusting pastors and those in the church building. That is of sin, but that is people's choices. That is out of spiritual ignorance and it's not a game and God is not to be mocked. If you are saying what you are saying, that means you didn't go far in yet. Or you're not fully telling me the truth. Either you're of God or you're of the world. Religion is of the world. And if your hearing certain things in mental institutions understand where your hearing from because they're not saying a lot with that either. It is all the same under a different name. And I am only speaking the truth that those who want to hear can hear. If you don't believe that, that is your right. But what your saying is spiritual ignorance. How can you people call yourself believers and yet you don't believe? Because if you believed, you would understand what is being told. Otherwise, you held to greater responsibility in knowing. I have always heard God and you must be clean to hear. You have to work that out and show God that you want to know him. As believers, it is our spiritual right to know the spiritual things of God and that includes direct communication to the father through the blood of Jesus and of the Holy Spirit. You must have the Holy Spirit in order to hear and you must ask. How serious are you about God and your relationship? Does not the word say recording what Jesus has said about they flatter him with their lips but their hearts are far from him? I say this out of love. Because if I didn't know or sense it was for me to say, I wouldn't say. But I sense that God wants me to tell you because I sense strongly now that you need to know. If your willing to hear.

And let me tell you by personal experience growing up. Leaning onto your own understanding can lead you into big trouble, and that is how satan uses it to confuse and take advantage of you when you're in sin. You won't be able to hear from God if you have that in you with all of that pride. If God sees you a person who is stubborn and won't listen and be humbled he will go to somebody who will listen. He's not going to fight with you. It's a choice. Because I'm sorry to tell you, even other Christians lie to you in churches. You need to know where your hearing from, and if your not certain, don't just rush into it. I'm sorry to tell you, it's not good. Because as God gives and knows your need, so does the devil waiting to give you a counterfeit. I've learned that not everything you get is always from God. You need to make sure you're not getting anything from satan without your knowledge. I'm younger than you and I've experienced many things and I had to learn many things. Some things I thought I knew, God had to pull me aside to reteach me all over again.

As for fraternities, I have been a member for almost 50 years. I have attended hundreds of initiations. I have never seen blood used in an initiation. I have never seen a sacrifice. I have never seen witchcraft or sorcery or any of that other stuff which causes you to condemn fraternities. What I have seen and heard are prayers. . . to God, not Lucifer or the Prince of Darkness.

@leavesbound very ghetto and dangerous area, isn't it? I have heard stories about a USF student getting mugged at gunpoint and I myself have been harassed by strangers who live near the campus. It was one of the worst decisions of my life to choose that school due to hearing "good things" about Tampa which aren't true.

When I said I live near USF I didn't mean I live in the same neighborhood. I meant I live in the Tampa Bay area which when compared to most of the people on this platform is near USF. I actually live on the other side of Tampa Bay. Unfortunately, schools are often built in dangerous neighborhoods do to the low price of the real estate in such places. The state builds based on who bids the lowest for a project. To bid low they can't pay much for land. the cheapest land is where nobody wants to live.

People insulted me for wearing an FAU shirt when I don't even have a degree from there. I have a degree from USF, but I was a young naive fool back then, thinking it would be good for me. Tampa is racist as heck and people harangued me a lot because I did not have the beauty of being born with European genes.

I hate my "alma mater" so much that I want to erase my degree from my resume and say that I only have one from FAU that I am working on.

I wouldn't say "defund" since they already have the money from my student loans I foolishly took out as a 20-year-old naive fool. I just sometimes wonder if I'm insane for not rooting for them, since I have a degree with their logo on it. I even go so far as to cheer for their rivals, the UCF Knights, out of spite.
