I can actually understand why they were fined. These are regulations which are set in advance. If you change the clothes you could potentially chance what kind of sponsorship deal you can get. This would be a disadvantage to your competitors.
If you want to change the dress discuss this in advance and give everyone the same choice.

I think it is sexist beyond measure to require girls to wear bikinis or to find them for not doing so. If they are going to fine them for not wearing a bikini, it should not be limited to girls but should apply to guys too for it to not be sexism. Otherwise it is nothing else than sexism and sexual harassment, whether it is only happening to girls, or only to guys.
I'd about the entire post. I would support them 100 percent for standing up for modesty. I hate that sexuality is forced for everything in today's world.
Swimmers wear bikini bottoms and its pretty self evident why. Some female runners wear them as well as they feel more comfortable with their legs fully out trapping less heat than shorts, or so I've been told.
Point being allow the athletes to wear whatever, within reason, they feel most comfortable performing in.
Well I think a lot less people will be watching because there is a high percentage of males that watch the sport checking out all the beautiful skin that is exposed. It is very sexy. That is part of the draw to the sport whether you like it or not. You don’t have to agree, you just need to enjoy the view.
It's ridiculous that it's mandatory to wear bikini bottoms for a sport. That said, I think a uniform should be uniform in the sense they should all wear the same thing. Bikini bottoms for a sport is unnecessary. They should be able to wear what they want as long as they all wear the same thing so they look cohesive.
The “bikini” bottoms necessity do seem a stretch. However, if those are the rules and the rules have been accepted by the volleyball federation and Olympic Committee, then recourse would be to challenge and get the rule amended or overturned. The fine is the cost of wanting to participate under protest as they can equally choose not to participate at all. Where that option may seem, “inequitable” (to use the modern lexicon), non-participation as an option can have an effect. It’s all a gamble.
I'm sure the rule exists just to keep everything as equal as possible. But I like the fact they stood up and I don't think what bottoms they wear is going to make a helluva lot of difference.
It's their good right. But let's face it. The reason any guy is watching female beach volleyball is to watch some attractive athletes. If they take it away, they just harm their own revenue. No one really cares about their sport.
Perhaps the team couldn't overturn the rule? Like most cases in the real world. If it doesn't cause anyone harm I think it's their right to refuse to comply with something as small
That's unfortunate, but I must say that the only reason I rarely watch female sports is due to the sexy outfits. So I think the organisers are concerned about profit.
I don't know how much control Japanese have over the Olympics, but I've read that Japan have these rules where women are required to be attractive. So I'm not surprised
Im happy they're standing woth their choice to not wear clothing they are not comfortable with. It's about the sport, not what the athletes are wearing.
I prefer regular volleyball... I never got into beach sports.

They don't "have" to any more than football players "have to wear what they wear. The leagues they play in set the rules of the game and the rules for uniforms for the players. Those can and do change as players and fans express their views over time. And it's pretty common when rules are in place for a given year that if an individual or team violates those rules they pay a fine or face some other sanction.

People are finally realizing that no matter how much we try to "act" modern and claim we live in the 21st century, we are still humans and as humans, we have needs most of which comes in a sexual way (according to the father of psychology, Freud) so wearing real tight short shorts points most of peoples' eyes on the women's ass instead of her skills (but most people will deny it even though they themselves do it and check out the female asses when they watch sports in which women short shorts!
I find the Norway attire more appropriate. Those skimpy bikinis don't allow me to concentrate in the game, my motivation for staying would rather be watching some skin.

It is handball. I am sorry I recently check multiple articles in different languages and they say almost the same but instead of saying volleyball team they say handball team. The article i mentioned under my question correct this error too.
Mostly because people like me couldn't care less about women's sports, unless there's some eye candy to look at. I guess the only reason they do is to sell more tickets.
In indoors volleyball they are allowed to use shorts. Beach volleyball would not get a much reduction in income just because the girls use shorts and not thongs. Let's be real men drool over volleyball indoors too where the girls wear shorts. So to bring more money is not the reason.
@This_Is_My_Opinion8 "men drool over volleyball indoors too where the girls wear shorts" - I don't. I don't think I'm a small minority either. Some men do, some men don't. Most will watch if they're showing off their curves in more revealing clothes though. Hence, it's a good way to sell tickets and that's likely why they do it.
I agree. And the short shorts they use in indoor volleyball do wonders for their curves. Men drool even over leggings that cover the entire legs and ass. I am sure most of us will drool anyway to a bunch of fit women using a top and short shorts. That is not what will make a major difference in spectators.
@This_Is_My_Opinion8 No you don't agree, because you didn't read what I said. "I am sure most of us will drool anyway to a bunch of fit women using a top and short shorts" - No, I'm making the claim that some men do, some such as myself don't when it comes to mere shorts. If they're wearing less then that however, then I think you can say most men.
So if a hot women is using a top and small shorts you won't see her? But if she is using a top and a thong you will? Those inches of hidden skin are enough to turn you off? Not many men will agree with you.
So you would pay to see the same thing you can see on a regular beach? You would pay, to watch a sport, for something you can see for free? Again I don't think you represent a lot of men on this. Tight shorts do wonders for women's curves.
@This_Is_My_Opinion8 I wouldn't pay to see a woman's sports match at all. I might watch it on tv if i had nothing else to do, though I'd be more likely to if they wore reveling clothing, on the basis i have zero interest women's sports what so ever. There only interest is the eye candy. If the eye candy isn't much good, then there is zero point.
@This_Is_My_Opinion8 The point is less clothes, more enjoyable to watch, higher percentage of ticket sales. If they really wanted to sell them then they'd have them do it naked ancient Greece Olympics style, and then have them all scissor during half time, and have the losing team go down on the winning team at the end. I might actually buy a ticket to see that women's sports match.
Realistically the sport would not have that less views of the girls changed to shorts. When do you hear about beach volleyball outside of the Olympics anyway?
I am aware. But doesn't take much to make us drool. Again even leggings do it. So what I am saying is that the difference in spectators will not be significant. Therefore it is not an good argument for them to not use shorts.
@This_Is_My_Opinion8 yeah, because people don't care about women's sports. people do care about women that can spread their legs though, hence why those women make more money
People don't care about men's beach volleyball either. Yes people watch prefer men's sports. But that is not the point. A small difference in attire would not dissuade that many people from watching.
The sport is beach handball. No, there's no need for bikinis in beach sports.

Fully understandable they didn't want to wear that kind of bottom what some nutcases did decide.
It isn't practical in that sport or user friendly.
Personal wouldn't I want to wear speedos playing volleyball.

I didn't read the entire post* not sure how auto-correct failed so miserably.
How's this even a thing.

Why dont they just watch porn then?
There is a difference between watching porn and rub one out and watching attractive females compete for the more aesthetic aspect of it.
It's in the rules.
If you are against the rules, let them be changed.
Just ignoring rules, because you think they are stupid (which they are in that case) is still not okay.
The fine was justified.
This is why They choose to get fined lol
And that solves nothing.
They should have boycotted the event, pulling more teams on their side, until the rule is changed.
Perhaps the team couldn't overturn the rule? Like most cases in the real world.

Thats the most stupid thing i ever seen, let them wear whatever they want and i can't think of any reason why there should be any dress code enforced.

Fine I will ask... You don't what?

Small tight shorts don't make the eye candy bad.

@This_Is_My_Opinion8 Yes, it would.
It doesn't have a lot already. Shorts by thongs won't make a big difference. Specially since they still use tops and not shirts.
I mean I am calling them thongs, but have you seen the Olympics? Some of them use big panties that cover their entire ass checks
@This_Is_My_Opinion8 Why do you really struggle with the concept that the more naked an attractive woman is, the more it grabs men's attention?
I am aware. But doesn't take much to make us drool. Again even leggings do it. So what I am saying is that the difference in spectators will not be significant. Therefore it is not an good argument for them to not use shorts.

They don't make many to begin with.
