I think in teams sports its certainly " we " , its a big part of showing you support , win / loose or draw , you have a stake in the event , just like when you buy shares in a company , you own part of that company its " we " , membership ticket is same , it takes far more than just players , and players cannot be paid ludicrous massive sums without support.
Its certainly " We " .

As someone who's had full season tickets for the New York Yankees since 1998, it's only acceptable if you're actually attending the game (s), playoffs, Finals/World Series/Super Bowl and/or going to the championship parade. Then saying, "*We're* going to (insert sporting event here)." is fine. Watching it from a couch or a bar doesn't count.
I think it’s silly. But then again, I think grown men sitting and watching other grown men play a child’s game is silly.
It's a common enough phrase and he's not the first to pick a team from a different area.

Few things perfectly fine as a fan you are part of the club or the individual without fans they have nothing no sport would exist without fans because from a business side they bring money in and another point dosen't matter if you don't live in that area look at me I follow 4 sports hardcore I am australia F1 I am a fan of a German driver in Soccer I fan of British team Rugby I follow team from differently state and Australian football rules I follow team in the state but not area if you follow a team just because your from that place more likley too be fake fan not to say you are fake fan
People are crazy when it comes to sports. I have seen much, much worse.
My friend gets physically sick whenever he watches football now, because Green Bay lost.I don't get it either. I've been following my basketball team since 2006 and have never referred to them as "we". I always say "they". I ain't a part of the organization. But some people want to "belong". I wouldn't get your supercutepanties in a supercuteknot over it. But Detroit, you say? Hopefully neither of you are Pistons fans.
Most NFL stadiums are built and funded by taxpayers of the city, so there is a "we" factor involved. Like here the county gets to pre-buy tickets before the normal public does simply because of this season, and pays less in parking.
The hard truth is that people fill up their shallow lives with all kinds of stuff... including sports. Sports is an escape and entertainment. It's just the same with people who obsess about other celebrities (what clothes they wear, who they are fv<k! ng, their political views, etc.). People yearn to identify with something...
Their views and support by purchasing merchandise literally help the team. Or at least who ever owns them. So yes I believe it's perfectly fine. They wouldn't work this hard if they didn't make what they do.
As far as active goes Brock Lenser
retired and of all time The Undertaker
(I watch wrestling)This squarely falls I don't give a shit territory for me. Everyone knows someone like that. I ignore them or refer to them Mr or Mrs Overfan.
Using "We" is the sign of a true fan, someone who believes they are a part of the team.
If it makes him happy let him call it that, it's not hurting anyone. What's the issue?
1989 was last time with Boomer E and I was a student at Harry Wendelstedt Professional Umpire School in Daytona Beach Florida and a bunch of us watched it.
Many people use “We” when describing their favorite sports team. Doesn’t make any difference if you live in that particular state.
I think it's okay but your not on the team so saying we isn't the best way to be excited. If you say my team I think that's okay.
Yes, especially if you've been a fan all your life and your fav team has never won a thing to speak of.
"We" should only be used to talk about fellow fans, not the team itself.
Cause you ride with them put things aside for few hours.
Kind of presumptuous.
Its as silly as fan culture itself.
