What's the point of the mlb all star game?

the game is tonight. and while it used to be that if that league won the game, they got home field advantage in the world series, but they stopped that.

So, other than the fact that you get to see people you normally don't get to see everyday, the all star game doesn't really serve a purpose, and oftentimes, they'll get hurt too

They added a new stip to this years game that, if it's tied. instead of extras, it will be a home run derby, between three players of each league

I don't watch baseball, but I think it's because people think that if you take the best players and put them on the same team, it will make it a super-spectacular game. In reality, the players aren't used to playing with each other and both teams are fairly equally matched so it just ends up being just another game.

On the upside, it gives the unchosen players a mid-season rest.

Like most all star events they have no value other than entertainment. I used to love watching the game back in the 90’s but don’t care about it at all now.
