Shouldn't Luis Rubiales step down from being the Spain women's team chief?

If you don't know already - and I'm sure many Americans don't - after the Spain women's soccer team won their last game against England, their manager Luis Rubiales grabbed one of the players Jenni Hermoso in a kiss and then slapped her on the ass as she walked away. But the man is refusing to step down, and the women's team themselves are pledging not to play another game until he does. Jenni says she never consented to kissing him even though he says that. All he will acknowledge now is that he acted stupidly and has to "be more careful" but he isn't going anywhere.

I feel like he's only making himself look worse by trying to stand his ground, and I've watched the kiss scene and it does look pretty bad. But what do you guys think?

All the women are clearly reciprocating the affection and it looks no different than the men's teams. If he'd been a woman it would have been OK, if it had been the men's team any criticism of him would have been branded homophobic. Lesbian Meghan Rapinoe kisses and dry humps female platers but nobody claims sexual assault.

This is why women's soccer is going nowhere. The biggest stories are not about winning but instead a proud male coach congratulating his winning team, or demanding more money equal to male teams or a Muslim player wearing a hijab or a Muslim player flashing her tits or England team being too white. Very little reported on the actual games. He's been targeted because he is a man.

They tried to get rid of him before I believe and he stood his ground. The entire spainish team refused to play and a whole new team was picked, the team that won.

You are completely missing the point though. If the woman is ok with her teammate kissing her, then its fine. It's up to her you know. It's not like oh she did it so he should be able to do it too. It's more like what she is ok with, what she is comfortable with.

I've had a female coworker hit on me more than once. I told her I'm not lesbian and please don't do that, that makes me uncomfortable. She still did it which was really weird and messed up and I reported her.

I literally had a 50 year old man at the same job hit on me and try to get me over his place 😑 so creepy. I turned him down, he kept doing his weird shit so I reported him as well.

As you can see, it's about what I'm comfortable with. I reported both genders with no problem. It's not about if it's ok if the woman does it. It's never ok, especially if the person is uncomfortable with it. This applies men too.

I had a different lesbian in college sexually harass me by touching my butt without my consent. If I had known better, I would have easily reported her if I knew that was an option to do on school campus. But I was a uninformed 19 year old. By that doesn't mean I want it or like it.

If she wanted to, she could have sat down with him and had a private conversation and asked him to kindly not do that. Instead of making it everyone's problem and broadcasting it. When I first saw it, my first thought was they let them get away with this in Spain? I'm a bit conflicted because on the one hand I give the benifit if the doubt if that emotion is culturally acceptable. If it's not he should probably at the least resign.

Spain still has a lot of old school machismo in their culture. When he spoke to the press and said he wasn't stepping down, almost all the men in the room cheered in support, and no women. So yeah, I think they'll let him get away with it.

But the issue is that Jenni was basically showboating the kiss on the bus like a high-school girl having a crush, and then the whole team is chanting and cheering about it. But THEN she wanted to change her story. No matter what excuses people try to use for her, it's wrong. And she herself knows she's wrong too or she wouldn't be fleeing to Mexico and having reps tell her not to say anything else about it.

That dude Luis might have a bad track record and not be a good guy, but Jenni and the team have shown us they're just as bad.

Bro even if she wanted him to kiss her—he didn't ask. He fucking mouth kissed a coworker with no warning. It doesn't matter what other context their was. It doesn't matter even if she didn't "change her story" and was perfectly OK with it. He fucked up seriously by what HE DID, regardless of how she reacts after the fact. He fucked up, and he should face the consequences. I'm not even saying he shouldn't be hired as a manager ever again, I'm just saying he shouldn't stay as manager there. Maybe. But she should still be kicked from the whole team, and maybe even the whole team needs to be kicked too. You can't laugh and joke about it, and then later say it bothered you. And the team can't sit there and cheer about, and then later say they won’t play if he doesn't leave. Her and the team are still wrong too, even if he is.

Sorry but you understand what he did is objectively wrong and illegal, right? They're doing what (arguably) they're supposed to do to make it more likely he receives appropriate consequences for his action, even if they didn't do so immediately. It's better they change their behavior when they realize they should rather than keep enabling inappropriate behavior just for the sake of consistency.

What he did is definitely wrong. But what she and the team did is still wrong too. Just because he was wrong, doesn't make her and them right. They show themselves as cowardly women who are all making light of the situation and having no issue with it before, but now want to decide they don't like it and claim sexual abuse. It's cases like these that are why women get away with doing their own shit.
