Is it ironic that 2024 college basketball's players of the year were on losing teams?

Zach Edey and Caitlin Clark

The 2024 college basketball players of the year (men and women, winners of the Wooden Award), are Zach Edey of Purdue and Caitlin Clark of Iowa. Interestingly, each was on the losing team in their respective college basketball championship game. UConn beat Purdue for the Men's championship and South Carolina beat Iowa for the Women's championship.

Isn't that ironic?

Nothing unusual at all about this. Many teams have great players in almost every sport but the team doesn't have enough good help for the great person for the team to always be the end winner.

It would be silly to think that the best player of the year MUST be on the championship team.

@OlderAndWiser I agree. In most other years, the players of the year were on teams that didn't even make the final championship game; the voting is done before that. It's unusual that both were not only in the final game, but that both lost.
