How should the Olympics medal table be ranked? Overall medal count or by number of gold medal?

I think it should be ranked by number of gold medals. It's a competetive sport. Gold means you won, you are the best in the competition. Silver is 2nd and bronze is 3rd, Ya didn't win shit!!

By number of Gold medals won

By number of total medals won (Gold + Silver + Bronze)

It’s ranked by Golds, however the rest of your comment seems to show you know nothing about the Olympics. For some getting there is an achievement, it’s a goal they have, they achieved it. Then it’s getting to the final, then by some hardwork, some luck they get a medal, yes getting gold is a crowning achievement, however getting Silver and Bronze is also a huge achievement for others. Imagine it’s your first ever Olympics, 19 years old and you get on that podium, it’s a bronze, you are elated, as getting a gold you knew was always beyond your reach.

I would do a compromise of 3 points for gold, 2 for silver and 1 for bronze. The US is 2nd on gold and 1st on total medals.

I would like Australia and New Zealand to unite as the ANZAC team cause then we'd be second on gold behind China and ahead of the US.

To hell with I am going count us as ANZACs now I have thought of it. Australian usually pinches the best people from NZ. I am finding it hard to understand why we didn't pick up the two gold medalists they've got. WTF went wrong?

The way they do it is best , the games was never meant to have a winner as such..

Its gold that counts..

The only other way you could do it ( total medals is just bullshit )

Would be Gold = 10 points Silver = 6 points Bronze = 3 points , something like this.

Because for an atheist to win a bronze metal that often means out of 20,000 people or more she was top 3 . Otherwise they would just give out gold and no other metals. Metals are still won by teams in the bronze game against the 4th place team. So it counts and you rank by overall metal count per country
