In a gun, BB stands for "bullet ball" or "shot pellet". The term comes from the size of lead shot used in shotguns.
Explanation
The size of BB shot is between "B" and "BBB".
BB shot is typically used to shoot small to medium-sized game birds.
The Markham Air Rifle Company used BB-sized birdshot in their 1886 civilian-use air rifle.
The Daisy Manufacturing Company introduced the first full-metal airgun that fired BB shots in 1888.
Daisy changed the BB-size bore diameter to 0.175 in (4.4 mm) around 1900.
BB guns are also known as air guns.
BB guns fire small metal or lead BBs, which can be potentially deadly depending on the strength of the gun.
