Whats your preffered handgun?

I'm all about the Glock 17. I've a few, I prefer the Glock 17 L. Never a stoppage as accurate as any handgun I ever saw, magazines that hold from 17-33 rounds 9mm. I know a lot of ex military prefer the Beretta 92f/M9 mostly because they carried it in service and there's a lot around with probably a lot of ex military surplus going to be on the market. Others prefer Sig or HK especially after being used by John Wick in the movies. While others prefer the M1911 or Browning Hi-power. I know others that like Smith & wesson, Taurus, keltec, ruger handguns.

My first handgun was a Glock 17, but if I could only own one handgun, my Glock 19 is the last one I'd ever get rid of. It may not be the best gun for any one specific task, but as a "jack of all trades", there's nothing better. It's a high-capacity, medium-sized (and reasonably concealable), lightweight, incredibly reliable, extremely accurate, enjoys widespread third-party support, and is relatively inexpensive. I've used mine in countless competitions, even against "race guns" sometimes, and have done reasonably well.

I have some nice 1911s, and at least one of most significant brands (Beretta, SIG, CZ, S&W, HK, Walther, etc.), but most people who only want or need one handgun would probably be best served with a Glock 19, unless it's too big for them, in which case one of the single-stack models might be their best bet.

My EDC is a Springfield Armory Long Beach Operator 1911. I’m more proficient with it than most other pistols and certainly more than the striker fired ones.
Suit & tie, I’ll carry my H&K P7 M8. Hands down my favorite pistol of all time. My back country gun is either a S&W 686 .357 or, if two legged predators are more worry than any four legged ones, maybe a H&K USP.45. Depending on my task or team, over the years, I’ve carried a 92FS, a P226, or a H&K USP Compact. I just picked up a Stacatto but not sure if I’ll carry it regularly but it has promise.


If friends or family ask what they should get I usually suggest a Glock 17 or 19, but I don’t carry one myself.

Glock 26. Little more kick than the 17 based on less weight and shorter barrel, but I'm not going to be taking a lot of 100m shots with it anyway. Tradeoff is it'll fit just about anywhere and I can throw in an extended mag if I need to suppress while falling back to get a long gun.

Hmmm…I liked my Smith and Wesson 686 plus. I also enjoyed the Bond Arms Grizzly. Makarovs aren’t too bad either.

My first gun, and the one I learned to shoot with, was a stainless 4” S&W 686. Still have a special place in my heart for her.

Maks are not terrible, but they aren't great. The East German ones are by far the best of the bunch, but they're all very snappy with the stock grips, and most people don't enjoy shooting them very much, unless you have some softer grips on them.

I definitely agree that the 686+ is a very nice piece.

You'll probably laugh, but it's my Walther P-22...22LR... and weak I know. But the thing gets shit done. Ammo is cheap for it compared to the other guns I own.

If it’s a striker fire gun a SIG P230 however I don't know I’ve heard they have a lot of problems. But the ones I’ve shot gave me no problems.

I like my Ruger Mark IV. I have a few auto 9mm but my second choice would be.38 special just because they are easier to clean and conceal. I haven't had a need to draw a weapon on a person in quite a few years anyways.
