Personally I'd very much like a civilian version of the HK416.

My Grandfather when he got back from Nam kept a pair of 1970s AR-15s which my father now has. They both always had the philosophy as vetreans of keeping at least one long gun in case the SHTF for home defence or if they had the bug out. My father has a fairly decent collection of semi auto rifles. A good mix of 4 AR15s, two M1 Garrands, a springfield M1A, an SKS, an FAL, an AK as well as some military surplus or hunting bolt actions and revolvers and his M9f bereta as his go to gun along with others. Personally I don't like to keep to many guns other than a couple of glocks and a basic AR15 that shoots true with ironsights, a Ruger M77 and a Ruger LCR revolver in my car.

Just my two cents on the MR556 (civilian HK416): it's an excellent rifle for quality, but it has absolutely nothing over a high-end AR-15 that will cost significantly less while having a lot more options for customization. The advantages of HK's platform are pretty much entirely focused on rapid or fully automatic fire, which are impractical and unavailable in a civilian rifle, so you're paying extra for a novelty and brand name. The best factory spec AR on the market right now for a respectable price (last I checked anyway) is in my opinion the Geissele Super Duty, and the similar Geissele URGI.

Personally, I have about a dozen different guns, two of which (rifle and pistol) are for easily accessible protection, plus an alternative upper receiver for longer ranges and heavier loads, if for whatever reason I had to flee out to the countryside.

I like my FS2000 for maneuverability in the house, but there's a Glock in almost every room if something pops off and I have to fight my way back to the armor and larger weapons. Depending on the job that's likely to be a SAIGA-12 or a SCAR-17S. There's REALLY big stuff in the master, but if I'm going for that I'm Home Defensing against the zombie hoard or something.

I find the FN2000 to be very clunky. Seems to be a feature with some of the modern bullpups except maybe the Steyer but I'm biased because I've trained with the M4 . M4 beneli would be my choice of shotgun.

I don't have a shotgun but do have an AR15 and I can hit a target at 300 yards centre mass with iron sights. But I'm in a more urban environment, I won't need to shoot past that and if I do I've a bolt action with a scope

I carried an M16 and M4 in the service, started out with iron sights. I COULD do it if I have to, but I've got my DBAL A/3 and Eliminator Scope dialed in real nice on the SCAR so I don't have to, and 7.62 NATO, while not as accurate at that higher distances, does have more kinetic stopping power at 100 yards or so and has much better penetration. We'd put a dozen rounds in some junkies overseas and they'd still be shooting at us when we were only popping off 5.56 at 'em. Kinda soured my taste for them to be honest with you.

Yo dude nice collection your pops has! Can't go wrong with the classics like M1s and FALs. As for home defense, you really can't beat an AR. Light, customizable, and easy to shoot well under pressure. Truth is most criminals will book it if you just rack the charging handle! I'd say your basic setup sounds ideal - couple Glocks for concealed carry, AR for the nightstand, bolt rifle for fun at the range. Never hurts to have a revolver backup in the vehicle too. At the end of the day anything is better than nothing, but with training you can handle pretty much any semi-auto no problem. Stay sharp bro!

When you have politicians running on law and order platforms to increase punishments on criminals it can sometimes be easier to redefine something than to actually pass a legal change. Redefine more sexual assault as rape and you increase the average sentencing time. Redefine rape as instances so one case can include hundred of separate times where a husband raped his own wife and you increase the sentencing etc..

@OfMiceandMen I thought of another thing I bought to protect my family; a fire extingusher. There are three times as many deaths from fires as from guns in the UK, at least (and that's ignoring that fires are accidental, but the few guns there are are usually aimed at people who aren't me, so I'm far more likely to encounter a fire than someone wanting to shoot me).
