Archers: do you prefer using compound or traditional bows?

I like longbows. Straight limbed bows may perform poorly compared to recurves and especially compounds, but they are the most forgiving and you can shoot them the fastest. They are also the best bows to hit moving targets with. It doesn't matter if your draw is a couple inches too short or a couple inches too long when you're in a hurry. You can just pull that arrow back and let it go. If you know where it's going to go, it's going to hit. Recurves are less forgiving and compounds are the worst if you need to get off a fast shot. Compounds are the best performing when it comes to speed and power but that's about it.

Compounds are clearly more effective. People like traditional bows for their connection with antiquity, so far as I can tell. Either is a fine choice. Nobody takes a traditional bow to the Olympics.

I started on traditional in jr high.
I like them each for different reasons but prefer the feel of a finely crafted traditional. I miss archery. I should get back into it.

The old recurves and longbows may look cool but beyond that they suck. Compounds are they way to go

for sport I like the traditional longbow over everything. Hunting I would choose the compound. But nothing compares to launching an arrow high into the sky with a longbow and watching it reign down right on target.
