Don't know if it's the wrong alignment, but I would consider Japan to be Northern Hemisphere. But as we see in other sports leagues division names don't always align with reality. For years New Orleans and Atlanta were in the NFL's western division of the NFC... so
It's usually bracketed with Southern Hemisphere rugby nations because of it's close links to NZ + Aus in time zones, trade + rugby -- but it is of course geographically in the Northern Hemisphere !!
