It was a bullshit call possibly due to a bribe itself or simply hatred of the USA. That was the feeling here before it was suspended. Most of the world said the call was too harsh of a call.
Trump is a mover and a shaker. You may not like him, but he gets things resolved in a bulldozer sort of way. So he made the call and got them to rethink this crap call. It should have been a yellow. This suspension effectively makes it like a yellow now. Messi did worse and received no cards.
FIFA is having a wonderful set of games here. Games that were approved by Trump in his first term. So they owe him a little. FIFA wants the US to be a big market for them.
But we like other games like basketball, baseball and American football, for which those beautiful stadiums were built. But now FIFA is setting records for viewership and the Americans are just getting into it. But then after the red card BS, people were starting to say, “this is why we don’t watch this shit”. Now with our player rightfully back on the team for the game tonight. The game now might continue to find acceptance here.
It doesn't matter if the decision was harsh or not. Other teams need to deal with the same. If the US team truly thinks it's a 100% wrong decision (and that's what it takes to have any chance of an appeal), there's an official procedure to follow.
A president who hates losing calling his corrupt best buddy isn't part of that.
Same rules for everyone.
It would be interesting to see if the sport becomes more popular. If it does, the USA could likely dominate it in the future. Now, it's barely a thought.
@lilBigPotato It was a bad call, so bad that it looked corrupt and perhaps was corrupt. Messi saw no cards for his same or worse foul. No phone call needed for him I guess. It wasn’t right to leave the US down a man in that last game. But to leave out the best player for the next game on a BS call will hurt the sport itself, not just the game tonight. FIFA wants the US to embrace the sport and this year we are getting closer than ever in doing that but to have us lose for a BS call is bad for everyone.
And there is no appeal to a Red Card. They changed the impact to a suspension so the red card stands. This is within their purview to do.
This is all just TDS now.
@FrodoSkywalker007 I played in high school but don’t watch the sport except for this year’s World Cup. Maybe I could get into it.
@FrodoSkywalker007 Yeah, most of the world thought it was a bad call but now that it is straightened out they hate it because Trump was involved. FIFA is corrupt. The FBI proved this 10-12 years ago.
I don't doubt that. I don't follow much outside of the women's game. Seen enough there to know a problem exists.
😂 😂 😂
I've seen the comparison between what Balogen did and what Messi did a few days earlier. Messi didn't even get a yellow card for doing the same thing that Balogen got a red card for.
I think FIFA reviewed things, as Trump requested (it wasn't a threat or bribe) and FIFA correctly decided that there shouldn't have been a red card in the first place, especially comparing to Messi. They couldn't change the red card but they could change the suspension. And they made it a one-year probation, which is FIFA's way of saving face and trying to maintain the integrity of the game.
I don’t think he did either overtly. He’s too smart for that. He just made it known what he wanted and probably gave a justification for it to make it seem legitimate, knowing that the head of FIFA really wanted to please Trump and would go along with any halfway reasonable rest he made.

Trump probably threatened to deport all the other teams until the US was the last team able to play
Funny thing is, the guy he saved, he doesn't even want to be American 🙄

They're friends so... he most likely gasslighted him. But why is no one talking about how FIFA did the same thing to Rhonaldo? He got a 3 match ban for an elblow incident and they reduced it to one, so he wouldn't miss the World Cup.
I don't know, I like the idea of being able to appeal a red card, and go after crooked refs, but at the same time if we start doing that where do we draw the line and who makes the decisions? But sometimes red cards are too harsh. There should be some ammendments made
I kind of agree now the US should never be allowed to host a World Cup again. It's too much about money here
I'm really not sure, and I really don't care. FIFA is a Shine Box organization that's more fixed and more corrupt than the NBA and professional boxing combined, and it's been that way for DECADES. Prior/retired FIFA officials have openly, publicly, and proudly BRAGGED about being fixed, bribed, and corrupt. Especially for certain highly ranked nations and star players. It's about time they did something favorable for a nation and star player that aren't from Latin America and/or Western Europe. All they did this time was change a highly questionable call from the very start with another equally questionable call. Good. The rest of the World can just deal with it and turn a blind eye to it like they've done for all of the other FIFA tournament controversies that just happened to work out in their favor for years and years.
At the end of the day, even with the "fix" in that so many cried about, it didn't matter anyway. The United States played like Brazil tonight. Like they were bored and had absolutely no interest in being there, and just wanted to go home and hang out on the beach drinking Surfsides. As we say on the job, "It is what it is."
Let's go nation with the smallest population and the smallest following! 😂
Nice to see Shine Box FIFA going back to their regularly scheduled shenanigans today, robbing countries and teams with no internationally recognizable stars, and/or not from Latin America or Europe. Egypt and their team were royally screwed in their match against Argentina. I'm willing to bet any amount of money that Switzerland and Morocco are next on FIFA's hit list. FIFA will never allow Argentina and France to both lose in the quarterfinals. If France somehow loses to Morocco on Thursday, Switzerland will be absolutely raw fucked by FIFA on Saturday.
I'm sure it'll never happen, but hopefully it'll be Belgium, Morocco, Norway, and Switzerland in the semifinals (the 4 smallest national populations remaining in the tournament, thus probably the smallest fan bases remaining in the tournament). It'd be nice to see Shine Box FIFA have a massive coronary. 😂
It was a pretty controversial call, and possibly the wrong call overall. I can understand why they made it, but I didn't think it was the correct call. My guess is Trump asked (or told) FIFA to review it to find out if the red card was justified. After they reviewed it, they lifted the red card, which most analysts say was not the right call to make in the first place. I'm not a huge soccer fan, so I don't know the intricate rules, but I think there was enough contention for FIFA to overturn the call without too many people being upset by it.
Yet another example of the one defining tRump characteristic. Corruption. FIFA's Infante is corrupt, tRump is corrupt... If he seizes onto something that he wants, for whatever reason, he will squeeze his grubby little fingers into the tiniest crevices to get his way, Fail? He'll find a different angle. If the US wins this match he'll be crowing and trying to turn this into mid-term votes, meanwhile the rest of the football world feels there's a two tier justice system... They're right.
@purplepoppy Purple, I'm not up in arms... What is FIFA and who is Balogen? Are we talking about a Tennis match here? Wait... maybe the world cup, in Frisbee? Oh... I've got it Field Hockey! No? Ice Hockey... was there a high sticking penalty and Trump bribed the refs to cancel the penalty?
I give up. I'm just not up on these earth shaking events...🥰🥰🥰🥰🙄🙄🙄🙄
Still love ya though, Purple 😁😁😍😍
He said he just asked the president of FIFA to review the play. He also reminded him that the World Cup this year is by far the most successful in history.
I saw the play in slow motion and President Trump was right, it was not a trip. However President Trump did put his thumb on the scale.
A privilege could not have been granted more blatantly than this. There are no commercial breaks—or "water breaks," if you choose to believe that—during the match. I didn't wait four years for positive discrimination favoring the US and Messi, for curiously rigged matchups, or for commercial breaks.
Whatever it was, Infantino is a corrupt and corrupting cunt and needs to go! 🤬👎
I am not a fan of soccer but seeing the call on TV, it looks like it wasn't flagrant. Now for this guy contacting Gianni Infantino, guess who he leases office space from Trump Tower... yes thats right. A
nd guess who courted the president to get FIFA here, yes Gianni Infantino.
World leaders need not get involved. And once again everything he touches turns to 💩 . The US lost last night.
the corruption was giving him a red card for that penalty in the first place. President Trump said the whole world can see it's not a red card penalty and your corruption is showing worse than the UK's asshole as it bends over for the takeover of violent Muslims. Trump wants a fair match; the corrupt do not. The end.
The World Cup organization has lost its neutrality.
The coffee tasted much better after I've read the news at morning. 4-1 XD
this thing get ridiculous , now uk and france ask infantino same thing , delay red cards of their players til world cup over
pretty sure the rest of team will do same thing too later
england = quansah red card
france = michael olise yellow card
Trump doesn't bribe anyone. Bribery costs money.
neither fifa knows people have had it with flopping and horrible calls and fifa bribes.
trump had to but in and made another joke of himself and america
Whichever it is, it's a scandal.
I don't know and I don't care.
Clearly wasn't a red card.
Neither but I'm glad he dud
