Do athletes have too much ego and backstory and not enough humility?

Seems like every athlete they interview has some sort of backstory. Now I really feel for everyone being human and especially the Para-games, however, however - why does "just about every athlete and their dog" seem to have an emotional backstory.
I just question the humility versus that classic Jerry Seinfeld line "oh, you think you're better than me" - The Doorman 💂🏻‍♂️ episode 🚪

Sports media loves a dramatic backstory because it sells, not because every athlete is a raging ego 😅

At higher levels, most athletes I’ve met are insanely competitive but also very humble in day‑to‑day life. You get humbled constantly in sport: losses, injuries, slumps, younger players passing you.

TV just spotlights the emotional “hero journey” angle, so you see more story than normal personality.

It's the degree they sensationalize or sell it to the audience's at home. But it also makes one look like "it's all about my struggles" - exactly like your answer. But not everyone gets to air it to the world. For shame 🫪
