that takes all of the fun out of the internet... where it's supposed to be anonymous. it's actually safer lol. we still have IP addresses for a reason and can still find out who the person is behind the screen if someone really wanted to.
I'm sure the kids who get sexually preyed on, or the people that get stalked, harassed would disagree how "fun" that is...
Horrible Idea. Data breaches happen and this would cause a huge amount of identity theft. If this was mandatory this would cause massive problems as many inexperienced website owners will leave the data vulnerable to breaches. And even a single breach could cause tremendous damage and there would likely to be many

I can't think of a situation where I want to see your legal ID. If it were a dating site, I'd want to have a video chat call a few times before actually meeting you.
Where did it say identity for all to see? You verify to the website at time of creating account, you still keep your anonimity with your created username with a checkmark or verified symbol by username

That's not the same thing for example I use VPN to always stay hidden. If sites required proof of identity it would be over.

@humanearth I am more on continous oversight for people that have that access.
Also, we have engineers and data analysts that can you AI and machine learning, to minimize centralized entities from creating a totalitarian govermment. Including profiling sexual predators.
